This is the latest update that I could find about the Australian brush fires

crumplehornedki has just moved there so I am most concerned about her and her family. It sounds horrendous.

crumplehornedki posted a more hopeful message yesterday and I will copy a bit of it here-
"Although the fires are still getting closer, we have had a dramatic drop in temperature which is helping the fire fighters. It is still very windy, but the fire that was heading in our direction is apparently contained on the western front and has stopped advancing north quite so fast. There are however other fires sparking up due to embers flying in the wind. One of the teachers at the girls' school has lost everything, all she has left is an inground swimming pool, and she and her family are lucky to be alive. She lives 20 minutes from here..."

Twenty minutes seem pretty close to me.
