Sorry I'm just now replying to this. (I'm trying to get caught up on a lot of LJ stuff with the computer being all mine right now and the only sounds coming from the fan on our computer and those outside our house. Aw, silence can be bliss. :-) )
I think that Elinor is a good choice for you. How do you feel about it, other than acknowledging that it's a common result for people you know?
Yes, Elinor is the closest now. I was probably rather impetuous and very romantic, rather like Marianne, when I was still a teen. And rather more like the definitely willful Elizabeth in my early twenties.
You have to remember that I grew up right after WWII and was a beauty queen and considered rather accomplished. I was first engaged to a veteran who was 28 when I was sixteen. All in all, I was engaged seventeen times in eight years before I finally married another veteran when I had just turned 24. Talk about 'a gal who can't say no', I just hated disappointing all those nice men. My poor parents had to notify family and friends that the wedding was off, twice. And I was still a virgin when I married the father of my three children.
