Well, It's about time, Grandpa!

I am becoming a lazy old coot. Not that my time is wasted, I just tend to wallow in my most enjoyable pastimes and have ignored the multitudes of LJ'rs waiting breathlessly for an update. ^_^

Recently, someone surfing thru lj had noticed my update containing my 'Le Troubador' photo with text referencing my first Navy ship, The USS Greenwich Bay, ( Read more... )

I've been wondering about you! Good to see an update. How cool to be in contact with your shipmates. I always love hearing stories about people's "days of youth". :D I'm trying to do a memoir with my grandmother- she was a Warbride from England and has many stories to tell.
Are you guys practicing or performing in that picture? How fun! Thanks for sharing that.
It sounds like you have been busy. Good luck with the garage!
Thanks for updating us on what you've been up to. :)

Oh, My!

The memoir may take longer than the garage! Yes, it is an experience to be in touch with someone 40 years later. There will be a lot of 'catching up'.
The picture was deliberately posed to provide us with promotion material.
We did an image mimic of the Kingston Trio, and sang folk songs of the time.
Booking one short show on a weekend could provide enough money to pay for our motel for a weekend.
After my tour on the Greenwich Bay, I had a tour on the USS Hunley, AS-31, anchored in the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. There are some tales there too.

Any type of 'clear out' is an ordeal in itself. I try to get rid of stuff and it seem to multiply before it's gone.
Glad to see you are on lj again. How is Java?

Java is the classic, typical Dachshund with the problem of malformed front legs. He displays all the typical traits: He is smart, sneaky, contrite when caught, loveable. He is a sponge that cannot be overloaded with attention. He will nudge everything out of his bed when he feels crowded, then pull his toys back in as he wants them. He has his own blanket, and will nudge it out of his bed when he doesn't want it, pull it over him when he is cold. He prizes his toys and PLAYS with them, doing very little damage, but shaking the hell out of them, tossing and pouncing on them.
He demands to sleep in Grandma's bed, and complains mightly when left alone anywhere.
We have him on liquid Condroiten/Glucosamine and Rimadyl tabs daily and it makes a noticable difference in his mobility and comfort. He is still mobile and, at times, even runs. We will get him a front-end wheeled cart when he indicates a true need.
Thanks for asking.
