The fifth snow of the season appeared in small flakes, just as it always did. Ethan knew it had a tendency of turning into a snowstorm that snowed everyone in.
Ethan tipped his head back, sticking out his tongue to catch a flake, mocha eyes slowly sliding shut. It had been a few weeks since he and Kurt had gone on their first date. Just thinking back on it made him chuckle, soft black curls springing from side to side as he shook his head. He was adorable when he was embarrassed, he had to admit. Kurt really was good at pulling off a blush.
He paused and looked towards the street, hearing a car approaching. Sure enough, his grandmother pulled up, getting out with a frown etched on her gentle, old features. He bent down and picked his backpack up, slowly trudging over to her.
"I don't understand my son..." she grumbled softly under her breath, adjusting her coat. Unlike most grandmothers, it seemed that she understood Ethan's take on life and love. While his father hated the mere idea of being gay, Grandma Leslie seemed to just go with the flow.
He managed to give her his usual 100-watt smile. "It's okay, grandma. He'll find out that nothing'll get my mind off of Kurt. Nothin'."
Leslie looked down at her feet and shook the snow off of her coat, helping him put his stuff in the back seat.
Ethan slid into the leather seat next to his grandmother, and they backed out into the street, heading down the road.
"What exactly is it about this boy that's so important to you, Ethan?"
Surprise flashed over his mature features, and for a moment, he had to think. "You know... I don't think there's a word to describe it yet. There's nothing in particular that's special to me. Sure, his voice is practically God's to me, and every time he moves, I can't stop looking... but what matters to me most isn't stuff like that. It's like--he always ends his sentences with this cool little tone in his voice. And he loves taking pictures of both of us together, and he doesn't care but he does care about us in public, and we--"
He cut himself off as Leslie started to laugh, quietly.
"... okay, so I got a little carried away by the question."
She shook her head, and stopped in a neighborhood. Ethan paused, glancing around. "Nah, I don't think you did. That's what I wanted my grandbaby to say. Now go out and enjoy your break with your boyfriend. I've got bingo to go to."
Ethan's eyes widened, before a grin came on his face. "Grandma!" He hugged her tight, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Leslie chuckled, patting his back. "Go on, now, he must be waiting. I called ahead."
"I love you a lot! I promise you, I won't get in any trouble--thanks. Just... thanks."
Once he got out of the car, he started towards the house. Ethan didn't need to get to the door before Kurt peeked out, jogging towards him and throwing his arms around him. He grinned and wrapped his arms around Kurt's waist, nuzzling his face against his warm neck.
"You're lucky my grandma gets me." he whispered softly into his ear.
"Yeah. I know." Kurt sat back onto his heels to look at him, lightly kissing him.
Ethan lifted him off of the ground, twirling him around along the falling snow.
