It is, as always, somewhat disturbing to be reminded of the extent of control the Animus have over us all. While it's entertaining enough watching people stumble around confused about themselves, it's somewhat less so to wake up and realize you don't entirely remember the people you live with. Not that that's the only complaint I have, but really ( Read more... )

amnesiac, varia mansion is a terrible place, no escaped convicts here, lol irony, event: what's your story?

I'm not sure I can say that, that I'm better off not knowing. I want to know why I live with the people I do, and why I feel others are so important to me and not having them around hurts so badly.

Yes... I suppose simply the fact that we don't remember makes us want to. The uncertainty is unpleasant.

And I only remember two months. All those years forgotten... it's hard.

What do you remember?

[Have a frog. WITHOUT HIS HAT.]

Considering this place, I wouldn't be surprised if our supposedly gone memories were some horrible secret. There seems to be a lot of those.

....

And I'm not a psychotic murderer. And we don't look similar, so we're not family. Hopefully.

[There is just something WRONG about Fran without his hat, but Mukuro can't quite put his finger on it...]

Yes, you never know what we could be hiding without even being aware of it. Do you want to know those things you've forgotten?

You might be a psychotic murder, you know. Although I think you're correct, it's unlikely we're family. Thankfully.

[It doesn't feel quite right to him either...]

Ah, I'd like to know what I forgot before I remember it, yes. But this place is home, so that information might be useless. What does Mukuro want?

I haven't found any skeletons in my closet yet.

I wouldn't call it home, but I suppose it's the closest thing we have. [He laughs.] Of course I want to know, even if it all turns out to be horrible. I feel fairly certain I could handle that.

I have to remember. Not knowing -- this is awful.

It is rather bothersome, particularly when there are things that I do remember but that I no longer understand the reasons for.

I don't like the Animus having this kind of power.

Don't misunderstand -- I don't like when they do things like flood the city, or turn us into fish, or send flocks of rainbow sheep our way. But when they mess with our minds like this.. that's when people really seem to get hurt.

No, I would agree with you. Affecting the city, or even our outward appearance, is annoying but easily dealt with. Affecting our minds - that's something else. I don't enjoy the thought that they have access to my memories so easily.

It'd be sort of nice, though, wouldn't it? To rediscover family like that.. or close friends, even. You can meet them again without the ties that you've had since you were little.

I suppose. But you could also meet an enemy, and without any memories to remind you, you could be hurt by them again.

Or maybe they've forgotten, too. If we've all been given a blank slate this week, perhaps we should just consider ourselves lucky.

But it doesn't seem to have affected everyone. Most people, yes, but there are a few here or there who remember. And some people seem to know more about others than those people do about themselves.
