The Unversed Affiliation: Trainer for now, because he likes his freedom. But I'm open to making him a Rocket in the future, if it ever comes up o/
Personality:
The very first thing you should know about Vanitas is that he's the biggest fucking most arrogant asshole to ever walk in KH-land-- save the real Big Bad (aka his boss) of course. And "conscience" is not in his vocabulary. Well, maybe his conscience isn't, but other peoples' is, and he does make sure to abuse this very often. He's not afraid to manipulate towards his own goals, and he's not afraid pull out all the stops, whether he has to lie or cheat, or even disobey direct, explicit orders.
He knows he's a bastard, and simply relishes in it. He knows he's crazy-- we'd say
ax crazy, complete with a
slasher smile, an
evil laugh, and a chaotic evil alignment.
What is "chaotic evil" you ask? It's a moral alignment that describes a free, truly evil spirit. Which means Vanitas is crazy, yes, but not a person you should send to an asylum because he might still be treated with pills and therapy. Instead he's the kind of guy you'd want in the death row, because he does anything and everything he wants, and steps outside of the law every now and then because he wants to, he can, and he will. And he's not irrational about it either.
He's smart. He thinks, he plans, like a chessmaster watching and waiting-- and even occasionally goading-- for his opponent to make one fatal error so he can swoop down and eat everything up. He's intelligent and calculating, planning out all possible paths to his goal, and I really do pity anyone who gets in his way. Screw the rules, he has plans, and he wants them done. Oh, and
he'd hit a girl to win. Well, more like run her through with a keyblade from the back.
Oh, and did I mention that he's really, really crazy? He laughs in the face of danger, because he is danger, darkness, and everything you're afraid of under your bed. If he fixates on you the same way he fixates on fusing with Ventus (which is kind of unlikely, but hey, a guy needs a new toy every now and then), you had better hide. He'll troll like there's no tomorrow, just for you to get so pissed off, and once you do manage to talk back, or fight back, he'll laugh in your face. It's a hobby of his. The more you suffer, the more delighted he is. If I wanted to be gross and stick a line out of KH and Disney, I'd say he gets off on it. But I don't want to, so... yeah.
All this comes from the fact that he's made up of pure darkness-- from Ventus's heart to be exact. He is everything that Ventus is not. That is to say, Ventus is kind, empathic and bright with light, while Vanitas as the other side of his heart is cruel, cold and dark to the point of being pitch black.
That's not to say that he's an emotionless being, no. He does feel emotions, both his and of those people around him. The only difference is that Vanitas cant feel happiness, love, and sorrow, but satisfaction (of a good kill, like an animal), anger, and other negative ones. Negative ones so strong that he'll possibly smash someone's face in to feel a little better when pushed too far.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
✔ He has no redeeming qualities-- no conscience. It works well for him, because he just wont have any regrets. and therefore no emo stages. If he were around for the nightmare plot, he would not have nightmares at all, because he actually dances in them, as a being of pure darkness.
✔ Keyblade: For a dark keyblade it sure is
a pretty one. It's a very important aspect of the Kingdom Hearts universe. With it he can open any kind of lock, even the ones on hearts. Literally. So in the wrong hands a keyblade can remove people's hearts. Or open up a world by revealing its very heart and core and make it vulnerable to the Darkness from the outside. Or simply create mass chaos as a regular weapon.
✔ Darkness: What he is, essentially. Darkness, typically, is the shadow made by light. It usually cant be touched. But in the KH-verse, both light and dark are forces that can be used as weapons. What darkness truly represents is debatable, as it's not full evil, but people are wary of it, because if they cant control it, it steals their hearts and turns them into black creatures called the Heartless, leaving nothing but empty bodies. Or sometimes even nothing at all, as the body gets swallowed up by darkness, never to be seen again. Vanitas's heart cant be taken away by darkness, because he already is the dark side of Ventus's heart.
✔ Emotions: He can sense the emotions of people around him, like an empath. He can even manipulate the negative emotions in a person to create the Unversed and become his little minions. When they're defeated, they simply return to him to be used any time he wishes, so he can literally create an unending stream of them. Additionally, he's perpetually linked to Ventus, meaning no matter where Ventus is, he knows just what Ventus is doing and feeling.
✔ Did I say he's a good wielder? That body suit may look restricting, but he actually can move freely. His movements are very acrobatic, and he's quite agile. He rode on a stream of keyblades, for Arceus' sake. He's an incredible pain in the ass to fight (look at that goddamn health bar), especially when he starts using combos of magic and physical blows.
✔ Also, he gets a lot of love even though he's a big bastard. There's just something about him that created a fanbase. That's a strength, right? /shot
Weaknesses:
✘ He has no redeeming qualities. No conscience, no whatsoever. That means he is a complete monster, and no one likes assholes. He takes orders, but only from Xehanort, because he and the old man are in cahoots and have similar goals. Any other person would have to get down on their knees and kiss his rear. Which is why he wont be a Rocket right off the bat.
✘ Without Ven, he's nothing. If Ven wasn't around in the first place, then where would he be?
✘ He's detached from the whole "human" thing. He doesn't have a life, he always, always underestimates people and this is kind of sad in a way. In a way. But it's hard to feel sorry for a guy who's trying to create chaos via Keyblade War.
✘ Holy magic is a bitch, especially if it's used against him. As a being of pure darkness, light and holy magic are painful. Doesn't help that Ventus is the master in holy magic among the BBS protagonists. Ow.
As you may have noticed... Vanitas's weaknesses are severely limited. This is quite true, because he hasn't had enough screentime to show that he has a lot of them, resulting in an overpowered character. Which really isn't a problem in this game because Arceus ate his powers :3;;
