[He lets out a loud sigh of relief and runs his hand through his hair.]

I'm sorry. I didn't think...

-=He's scuffing up the walk, eyeing the fire damage on the ground.=-

[Roy is just sitting there, staring into nothingness as he takes a break from failure. In that silence, he hears the sound of footsteps. Are they coming towards him, or just walking past the house? Who do they belong to? The only thing he's fairly certain of is they aren't Riza's.]

-=Mustang will figure out soon enough Ed's distinct lopsided gate. One foot always sounds much heavier than the other.=-

Hey. -=he walks up to Mustang and looks at him.=- Looks like you've been working, eh? -=And he smirks at the stool. Not very good, is it?=-

[Irritation has made Roy a bit more honest than he would otherwise be.]

[Sirius was totally just talking a walk in his dog form in the newly un-ocean-nized Safezone. Being a merman thing was pretty cool, but he did prefer walking to swimming. And after a week with no legs, he felt like he needed to stretch them out.]

[So a walk out as Padfoot was just what the healer ordered.]

[It didn't take him long to run into Roy, but the moment he saw the other man was the exact moment one of the Fire Alchemist's explosions went off. And seeing that he was a good distance from Roy...meant that he was fairly close to the explosion point.]

[So the startled yelp of a dog is probably audible to Roy.]

[Shit, he thought the dogs were inside! Sickened at the thought that he hurt one of them, Roy stumbles to his feet and heads in the direction he heard the yelp.]

Are you all right?

[Stupid. Talking to a dog.]

[Offline]

[It only takes Sirius a few seconds to recover from that and once he does he turns to face Roy. He notices then that Roy seems different and his walking strangely. And then it clicks in his mind that Roy looks like a blind man...]

[Merlin, this place really is a bitch sometimes.]

[He takes pity on the man and closes the distance between them on his own, so that Roy doesn't trip over anything. Once he's in front of the alchemist, he lets out a loud bark to alert him of his presence.]

[At the sound of the bark, Roy drops to his knees and reaches out to pet the dog, feeling for any injuries.

This didn't feel like Black Hayate or Dakota.]

...who are you?

[He feels around for a collar, though it's not like he'd be able to read it.]

[The burst surprised Suki, but also caught her interest.]

Are... are you a fire bender?

[The new voice takes Roy by surprise.]

Ah, no. I'm an alchemist.

[He has to think for a moment. He's never had to explain an alchemist to someone before.] A scientist, of a sort. We take matter that is in one state of being and transform it into another.

[He claps his hands together and touches the ground, transmuting the earth into a small statue of Black Hayate. Hopefully it's mostly successful.]

[Jean Louis is heading for the library, his notes folded in one hand. He notices Roy outside the house and pauses. Having spoken to Riza a few times already, he's curious about this... colleague of hers. As he approaches, his footsteps should be clearly audible.]

Not playing with fire, I hope.

[He sounds just a tiny bit amused.]

[Roy cuts off the flow of energy, making his hand spark slightly but stopping the flame that he had intended to create.]

I would never play with fire. [casual and cheerful]
