Hermione turned her back on Severus, hugging herself, shaking off his hand. Ironic. She’d feared Ginny right-that Severus would never be able to even try to reach out to her, yet now she was the one who couldn’t bear his touch. “Choosing you killed my friendship with Harry.”
“Then it was never very strong to begin with.”
She laughed bitterly. “I betrayed him for you.”
“You didn’t-”
“He thinks so, and that’s what matters. I want my old life back. What does that say about us?”
“That this is our epitaph: The greasy git wasn’t worth it, after all.”
“Damn right.”
