For my test I always take side notes too and this helps me so much especially when I have those five minutes to study before it.

We basically study the exact same way, but write our notes down differently. It sounds like you write down important notes in the book while I write all my notes in a separate notebook. Writing notes in my text books has never worked for me but it seems to be working quite well for you.

I agree with you that reading the textbook and highlighting the important topics is important, but I do not feel the same way about annotating the book. I believe the textbook does not require my personal input, and I could write my notes in a different place such as a notebook. This would keep my textbook looking clean, and I would be able to access all my notes without having to get into the textbook. I would not do this for a novel or book, however. I would simply read the book and maybe* highlight important details.

Before a test I like to be able to flip through my notes easily so writing in the book seems a little more ponderous then having the notes in a notebook. However I think it is great that that method works for you. I also agree about a lot of textbooks meandering around the point.

I think its great that this method works out really well for you and I can see your point on why. But I most definitely agree on the point you made of the study habits reflecting your grades. It most definitely does.
