Im sort of confused with the 10th step...
when set to normal.. the gradient wont blend.. im using ps7.. =/ - and its the same with psp.. are you sure the step is "normal"?

"Normal" is right. It's not supposed to blend. The layer is to lighten up the dark area behind Galadriel, thus taking the focus away from that area. You could also use any other brush, just so the focus is on the face not behind it.
