Package Design Help?

Feb 28, 2012 20:52

Hello all,

Can anyone help me by giving feedback and suggestions on a package design? I'm not content with how it's going, but I'm stuck as to how to make it better.

Thank you in advance!

My comment is just from the usability stand-point. How important do you think is for customers to be able to read "French macaroons" to recognize what's inside the box when they see it on a store shelf? If it's important you may want to reconsider the placement of that title, because of how the boxes will be stored and/or displayed. They either will be standing up vertically one on top of another on their octagonal side, or will be stacked horizontally "on the side" several in a row. One way or another, the octagonal side won't be visible to the customers until they can actually hold the box. So, I would move the words "French macaroons" below the bakery logo on the side panel and added the flavor name to it, so it'd read:
Madeleine Desserts
Raspberry French Macaroons
(You woul have to come up with a more suitable font face for the second line of text, of course, in this case)
As for the octagonal side, I'd put a (much) smaller version of the logo along with the bakery address and phone number there.

The colors seem kind of dull to me...maybe change the solids to a very subtle gradient to give it a little interest? Also, the font for "French Macaroons" is really boring. I'd use a bolder font and make it white and kind of bring it in a bit...the word "Macaroons" in particular is really close to the edges. Same with the "d" and the "l" in Madeline...I'd make that font a bit smaller so it's not so close up at the top.

The colors should be richer... have you looked at Macaroons? have you tasted one? It's best to get as much experience with Macaroons as possible. Have you visited a pastry shop that sells macaroons? Why is the box so big? Macaroons are small and danty? right? when you eat one...you want to keep the impression that it's i don't know, not like a cheeseburger or something. it's a good treat but it won't make you fat...i don't know, from the pictures you have shown it looks kinda wide/stocky or that could just be the picture ( ... )

Sorry to track back on the entries. I think the word dessert could also follow a similar font look as the 'macaroons' words.

No problem. Thank you for your help, but this was changed and wrapped up a long time ago.

This was the finished product:
