So I'm trying to put together a poster for the Monterey Jazz Festival. At this point, I don't know if I will even submit it into the design contest, but life for me is crazy and I need a creative outlet to keep me sane. And I've hit a wall

I'm not an expert on art deco, but I am finding that I am paying more attention to the illustration of the female singer in the front than anything. I feel like the typography and background are too subdued, I would like to see you experiment with some more bright colours and try some different things with the typography. The blue on blue of "Jazz" makes it fade into the background, which makes it feel a bit like part of the title goes missing.

I'd also be inclined to move the date up to be more visible (so that it's easier to read and doesn't get missed if the poster is put up in a place where the bottom may be difficult to read).

Also, you might want to consider adjusting the microphone as it looks like it is protruding from the singer's chest.
