I'm on Amtrak right now - it takes a very different path than the one that Caltrain takes - it is pretty cool because I get to see a lot of scenery and waterways, wildlife, hills, etc. Also, the Amtrak in CA is way cooler than the one in OR/WA because it has a power outlet for me to use. Wooo!
Today was pretty crazy, but overall it was awesome. It was a vacation day, but the email server died a horrible death at 5:30 pm on Thursday, and with my days the way they've been lately, that was pretty devastating because I've been working til about 8 pm or so every day, so that cut off all the things that I had to get done between 5:30 and 8 and threw them out the window. So, instead of sleeping in and being on vacation on Friday I got up early and called my awesome coworker to have her call me the second the server was back up so that I could go into the office and get cracking at my remaining items that I needed to get to before my weekend could begin.
But, that all worked out for the best because I got up early and worked on cleaning around the house and cleaning up the kitchen a bit, and I had time to get a bit of stuff done around the house, since the server-comes-alive moment didn't happen until after 10am. I wonder if there is some sort of "Server Lazarus" that goes around behind the scenes saving the day in just such instances, and that's who our IT department secretly has on staff...
THEN, after the campaign email launched this morning, and I got a few of my key work items out the door, it was off to Border's, because today is a day of vacationing, in particular, a day of some serious splurging, since I am getting paid for some of my overtime and the stress has been getting to me a lot. So, two new books and the latest issue of Real Simple later, I walked across the street on Santana Row to Burke Williams day spa for an hour-long massage. This is a type of spa that I'd never been to previously - some might call it the "real thing" - where paying for one "service" at the spa gets you all-day access to their luxurious spa, where clothing is optional and people wander around either naked or in swimsuits enjoying the jacuzzi, sauna, showers, quiet room, fancy bathrobes, cantaloupe water, and miscellaneous other perks like a bowl of fruit and all the different kinds of lotion you could dream up. It was GREAT!! I wasn't able to stay quite as long as I wanted, considering that I was qualified to hang out there all day since I was getting a massage, but it was really snazzy and I am quite happy.
My awesome neighbor drove me to the train station, where I am now headed on a long journey up to Susie and Ray's new "lake house." They have internet there now, so I can combine my need to check my work email over the weekend with being in a relaxing location and getting to sit out and watch the lake.
My birthday is in two weeks. I'm going to be 27.
Max is on a roadtrip right now - the one that we were originally going to take together - taking the whole week off and adventuring up to Oregon and Washington for PAX. I miss him a lot and I wish I could have gone with him - he's having dinner at my parent's house tonight.
