Soft light is on the blending options. When you have the layer selected, there should be a drop down menu in the layers pallette that says stuff like normal, soft light, dissolve, etc.

If something turns out in greyscale, go to image>mode>rgb color.

Hope that helps. :) Let me know if it doesn't.

If there's anything you think I'd be able to help you with, just ask (and be specific with the problem) and I'll try to help. If you have Photoshop 7 or above this should work.

when I use desaturate it, it goes into grey scale. *starting over again*

nonono....when you desaturate something, it's supposed to go to grey scale. But when you change it to Screen and continue with the tutorial, it won't be grey anymore.

You change the mode to screen on the same menu as soft light.

Is the texture under the picture of Nick? Also, which layer did you change to Luminosity? You should change the Nick layer to luminosity and keep the texture (which should be UNDER the layer with Nick) Normal.

fixed it, hehe now it makes sense, So do I flatten it?, before I copy it?

Um...not sure of the question. What step are you on? What was the last thing you did? If the tutorial says flatten the image, yes, but if it doesn't, then don't.
