in further ridiculousness

So that kid with the shaved eyebrows... He came to school today with a big ol' bandage across his cheek. I asked him what happened. He said...

A vacuum cleaner sucked my face off.

Well then....

I gotta admit, the kid has an action-filled life. Think he'll be popular in high school?

This kid sounds special, how does a vacume suck your face off, was he trying to give himself a hicky and some how messed it up?

Beats me. But actually, there's an injured kid fetish that's been popular these days. Girls wear bandages or eye-patches and pretend to be hurt because they think it's sexy. Weirdest fashion fad I've seen in Japan. And this kid is kind of a fruit, so maybe that's what he was going for...

injury equals sexy, i've never heard that before. well nan, i guess you shouldn't get hurt anytime soon or you might have a bunch of male admirers in the student popluation. They would follow you around like a herd of ducks, it would be creepy.

Hehe that would be creepy. I don't think the boys generally find it attractive though. It's just a fashion statement amongst the girls. I was talking about this with another English teacher the other day actually. In America, "fashionable" and "attractive to the opposite sex" are usually synonymous. But in Japan they can be really really different. I think the general purpose of fashion is just different. Girls dress up to impress each other. (shrug)

nan, i have a weird, random ass question for you: my roommate is doing some album art for his band and they were going to use a scan of a vintage japanese catalogue ad for gas masks, but the resolution on the pic wasn't high enough. he's going to try and recreate the image, but he needs some source material to work from. i doubt you have access to vintage weapons catalogues, but i figured hey- i have a friend in japan, maybe she could get something... anyway, i hope things are well for you, and things aren't getting too far out these days...

I'm afraid I have no idea where to look for such a catalogue, so I would just check the internet. If you can tell me the name of the catalogue that your friend was trying to scan, I can try to track it down. But that might require going to a library and ordering it from a special archive if it's a vintage WWII magazine or something. I would need to know the date of issue of the specific catalogue too. If you can get that information, I can try!
