It's snowing so hard I can't see three feet in front of me when I ride my bike to school. And my tires slip all over the place. Awn.

I would like to say that it's all very beautiful and amazing, but man, I can't wait to go somewhere tropical.

what the hell are you doing riding a bike when it is snowing that hard? or is this just a crazy thing they do in japan?

Well, the thing is, not everyone in Japan can have a car, so bikes are a practical means of transportation for a lot of people. They're not really used recreationally like in the states. They're just a type of vehicle. So people use them year round to get places. Obviously no one would choose to ride a bike in the snow for fun, because that's crazy. But if the grocery store is a half hour walk away and you don't have a car, well then the solution is pretty obvious. What cracks me up is how Japanese people are so obsessed with their perfectly gelled and coiffed hair that they refuse to wear hats in the snow, and will instead ride their bikes through a blizzard with an umbrella. Giving rise to the popular saying, "You know you've turned Japanese when you can ride a bicycle through a blizzard while carrying a sack of groceries, an umbrella, smoke a cigarette, and talk on your cell phone at the same time. ;-)
