Dun dun dun.... It's time for me to buy a cell phone. Yall who live in California (Maddy, Heather, Nikki, I guess this mainly means you) what service provider do you use? I'm looking at Verizon, Sprint, ATT, and T-Mobile, and it looks like T-Mobile offers the best deal. For $35, I could get 300 any-time minutes, with unlimitted nights/weekends, ( Read more... )

Verizon seems to get a lot of bad press, but I've used it for years and it works just fine for me.

Thanks! I didn't really have a problem with Verizon either when I used to use it.

I use verizon. I like it because it comes in everywhere. I don't text much. When I do, it's usually for a specific purpose.

Don't get ATT because they got busted blocking text messages between pro-choice organizers because they didn't want the group to be able to organize a protest. Worst part? They still charged them for the texts and never notified them that they were blocked. That's some conspiracy theory shit right there (I went to an FCC conference on the matter).

Oh yeah I heard about that!!! That's some freaky shit. I bet your dad flipped a nut. Ok forget ATT. I think my top runners at the moment are Verizon and T-Mobil. According to the web site, T-Mobil is a lot less expensive than Verizon, but I'm going to go to the mall and let a salesperson try to convince me otherwise before I choose.

Anyway, so you DO have texting? Ok. I don't know what I'd do without it. My old phone in Japan had free unlimited texting and 5 yen per minute calls, so I basically *only* sent texts, and wound up with a phone bill of 20 bucks a month. I can't find anything that cheap in America. :-(

I text! I'm just bad at it. For me, I didn't text at first. It's really something you can just add on in the future if you find yourself using it.

I go with Verizon, but that's also because I live in Montana. If you're going to be doing traveling, definitely do Verizon. Altel is the only other provider that has the same kind of coverage and their billing is horrible. My sister has T-Mobile, I can ask her about what she thinks. Another reason to go with one company is most my friends and family have verizon so it doesn't count against my minutes.

Sheesh, sounds like everybody uses Verizon! If you don't mind asking your sister what she thinks of T-mobil, that would be nice. According to the web site, Verizon was the most expensive, but I bet if I go to an actual salesperson, they might give me a better deal. :-)

It may be more, but I've also never had a problem with them. Plus if everyone you call uses Verizon then you don't have to worry about going over your minutes at all. I'll talk to my sister though.
