Sending my son off to school

Aug 26, 2009 09:27

I've been seeing a lot of posts on Facebook lately where people my age are now sending their kid off to college.

Me, I'll be driving Ethan over to 1st grade next week.

That's how it goes, I guess. They marry at 24, I got married at 30. They had kids right away, we had five years with a cat before we started planning a family. It adds up.

life, kids

How exciting to have a first grader! Think of all he'll be learning (and teaching you)!

Personally, if I would have gotten married at age 24, I'd either be divorced or miserable right now. I think older is better for the biggest decisions-- like marriage and children. But then, that's just me.

That is quite true, about where one might be after tying the knot at 24. It is good to think that the decisions we make later in life are better arrived at. On the other hand, people who wait until they can really afford to do these big things often are wheeled down the aisle! :)

Most of the people with kids the same age as my daughter are younger than we are, but there are some that are older, too.

Especially ones with "second families".

I do have a cousin closer to my parents' age with a daughter about the same age as ours. I guess at a certain point you're just in it for the parenthood part, and are ready to write off grandparenthood. Unless the nanomedicine revolution comes ahead of schedule...
