If you were packed in a truck and driven around with a billion of your brothers to do work, you'd probably leave and never come back too.

I think they are on vacation. Apparently this happened in 1896 and in the 70's too.

does it have to be local honey? what is the theory behind how this works?

No, it appears that it does not have to be local, but I have heard that some find that local honey is effective for dealing with pollen allergies.
Wayne heard a guy on the radio say that he had done the honey in the corner of the eye for years. I found that effective-even with 'pure' (read:heat-treated) honey, but I have switched to 'really raw honey' (store-bought national brand, not local as far as I know). I do not know the theory-just have the experience to share.
Combining this treatment with dietary restrictions is getting me through the hay fever season without drugs. If you had ever seen me flattened over Memorial Day week you'd have a better idea of the depth of my joy and relief.

happy news!

when we were younger we would take bee pollen pellets to help with allergy related illnesses.

my doctor has told us that it is beneficial to eat honey from your local area and/or the area in which you grew up because of allergies to the plants by which you are surrounded.

it is beneficial but not a cure all.
