My kitty Nemo was very sick last week, so he spent a lot of time sleeping (and staying overnight at the vet). I had given him a soft piece of fleece to sleep on, but he soiled it. (One of Gianni's hobbies is sitting on things. I once bought a bottle of upholstery spray that would supposedly keep pets off furniture. So before using it, I did a test-spray all over a dishcloth and set it on the floor to see how they would react. Gianni immediately sat on it. I returned the spray for a refund.)
Aww, well I did just have a big rug down on the floor for half a year, so that protects the shiny. But also, I think my landlaird just re-shined it before I moved in 3 years ago. He did something to it.
