So, what's new in this version of the Sims? (Mind, I haven't played 2 either, just the original.)

The overall scope is bigger, in that instead of focusing on a single lot at a time, you've pretty much got the whole neighborhood there. Wanna go visit someone on the other side of town? Sure, go walk over, or get a taxi. It's something I thought they should have done in Sims 2, so I think it's a much-welcome improvement

If you liked Sims 1, I'd recommend it. It's more of the same, but so very much improved and refined. :)

Fairly sure it wouldn't be compatible; while it looks similar on screenshots, the graphics engine still feels pretty different when playing. I think they tried to keep the same 'feel', but it looks like the whole thing was rebuilt from the ground up.
