I used to give out the analogy that computers are like cars, you have to take them in to a mechanic who will fix whatever problems there are with them. It's hard to relate that to people though. Which is why I have a new way of describing it.
Your car runs with an engine. The engine is kept cool with a radiator and starts because an alternator coverts battery power to mechanical energy. The engine is kept lubricated by a complex system of oil lubricants. You also need oil and an oil filter. In order for other things to work you must have an air filter and carbeurator and such. To be honest, I'm not a car expert, so I don't know it is that makes a car work. I do, however, know every single possible thing there is to know about computers, so hear me out.
Your computer runs on magic.
That's all. Since your computer runs on magic, and everyone knows how magic works, it's okay to crack open a computer case and plug and unplug WHATEVER IT IS YOU WANT. Why? Well, because computers run on magic. It's the reason why sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. You used to be able to get on the Internet, but you can't today? Why, it's because the switch near the voltage on your power supply isn't set for European standards. FLIP IT! See all that smoke and flashing sparks? It's MAGIC!
You too can be a computer genius. All you have to do is figure out how the magic works. Try fiddling around with random computer components and parts today!
