My impression is that the term 'liberal media' is favoured by extreme right-wingers in order to dismiss any news source who reports on something in a manner perceived as either favourable to liberal sensibilities or antithetical to conservative ones, regardless of which way the souirce consistently leans.
"It can't be true because it's bein reported by the Liberal Media".
AYFKM indeed. I am American, and while I'm not going to have the very public I-wanna-run-to-Canada syndrome most people here do, I do have to say it would be nice if people here cared as much as you do. Even those who bother to vote don't actually know what they're voting about, and as far as I know think we do exist in a vacuum. Like, they think Reagan's metaphorical dome over the U.S. is real, so all that matters is what we want and there are no consequences. Which is revoltingly true on an individual, personal level, but that's a topic for another rant.
The sad thing is that, from what I gather, a lot of voters don't stop and think about how a candidate will affect their own country, never mind the rest of the world.
That's why I worry that Barack Obama's campaign might yet fail. His goal is to change the way politics are done in America; what he might not realize is that politics are done the way they are because the majority of voters just don't want to think beyond quickie tax cuts and whether you're Muslim or not.
That seems to be about the extent of it. Not to mention that people are suffering from a grave reversal of priorities, so that they select a candidate who will interfere with people's sex lives rather than a candidate who will clean house here and build a strong foundation for the country. People focus on things that are really non-issues in order to get out of thinking about things like international relations and the economy, which require effort and work and are therefore no fun.
I think Calvin and Hobbes really summed it up best, at least for me: "Thppbt."
