Which of your personae do I get to see?

We all wear our masks don't we. It's not always intentional , but we are a different person for different occasions. We get dressed up to go out so that we can impress everyone, then maybe go back home and get into our frumpy comfortable clothes to just lounge

In my experience, the personae (way to use the correct plural, by the way. You're the man) are a definite necessity. I can pretty honestly say that not one person I know is acquainted with who I actually am. Some have seen more than others (and some have seen what they think is more than what others have seen, but is really an equally elaborate persona), but in the end, the only person who really knows you is you. That's why I think it's so important to really feel good about who you are. Like, if you're the only one who really knows you and you don't like yourself, you're pretty much fucked. Even if other people like you, you don't have anything, because it's not even their true selves who like you, you know

I mean, we all play the mask game to some extent. To some extent, it's necessary. You just kind of learn to incorporate your true self into those masks. At work, I'm still very much Natalie - though I bend a little so no one has to break. I too have a hard time with the whole "not everyone is going to like you sometimes" thing - but sometimes, you don't want some people to be completely happy with you. That's just kind of the way it is, and it's not usually until later you really appreciate things that might have fallen through due to personal fallout. Sometimes, people just aren't going to be the best of friends. If they're going to chose to channel that energy into hate or something equally as negative, they're going to suffer more for it in the end.

I like the Dan I know - and the Dan I see that other people might miss - including him :)
