I think somewhere there is a translation that we're missing. Like we have the word Pot, and Pot. One is for cooking, the other smoking. So there might be a very normal, common everyday use of the word that does not come up when I google it.
Natto is very nasty slimy fermented soybeans. It's sticky and smelly and stringy. I know exactly what it is. And the mental image I get is just dreadful.

its like saying that two people have intercourse when you are just referring to them talking. technically its correct but... .
