Intimidation

One of the things about me (and people who know me in the physical world will attest) is that social situations or extremes don't intimidate me. I never feel like I'm 'wrong' in some way. I mean, I am as comfortable facing black tie occasions, sophisticated trendy hot spots or restaurants as I am in going bowling or to a diner. I've dined in a ( Read more... )

Nothing intimidates me more than the whole real-estate game. Mainly because it's so far out of my league or realm of possibility or desire, but at the same time I feel that I am expected to be a part of the game.

BTW, Middle Daughter got a job at Walgreens--working the cosmetics counter. Which is funny, since she's the daughter who doesn't wear any makeup...

Ah, but do you have any *irrational* intimidation triggers?

I can't stand to be in music stores--I'm convinced that my poor taste in music is showing through any time I pick up a CD, or I'm so icked out by whatever's coming through the speakers that I just can't stay, or I *do* pick up whatever music is in style with my age group and feel that someone will expose me for the fraud I am, trying to fit in with the cool kids. This phobia obviously started in middle school, and hasn't really quit, despite the fact that no one cares what I listen to now. If Amazon.com had existed when I was younger, I might be semi-fluent in the music of my generation, but as it is, I don't know any of the music I'm supposed to know.

But I hear you. My feeling is that there's no reason to make yourself go there if you don't like it.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Why should/would/does anyone care about your musical taste? But that question is ultimately irrelevant, even though it is rational. You feel what you feel.

I remember feeling a bit like that in college - but then I realized that someone was always scoffing at any and every musical taste. So, I just went with it. Not too many of my peers owned, at that time 1985 ish, albums by Duran Duran, Van Halen, REM, Thomas Dolby, and Umberto Tozzi.

But yeah, I totally get what you are saying.

And now you know Kris Delmhorst, and make me feel like maybe I am finally listening to what the cool kids listen to! (grin)

I wonder if one can buy makeup online? It would probably be quite a hit-or-miss thing, though.
