That most wonderful time of the year

Dec 25, 2016 22:55

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, everyone!

Yeah, I still exist, but in a very low-key, nearly zero social media version. I will have to catch up on LJ happenings soon, but I felt it necessary to say hi.

Peace and love...

lj hiatus, holidays, christmas

In general, things are mostly okay. Jeff's mom is still declining in health at the nursing home, and this is giving him/us a lot more on his mind, and since he's the primary decision maker (despite his other siblings living much closer), most of the footwork is done via long distance and travelling. I'm mostly okay, this is going to be the second winter in a row I am not entirely laid up in pain and immobility from spine damage, so that's a good thing. I'm far from 100 percent, however, a lot of things I just can't do. Jeff has a new job, some more pay, a lot more interesting tasks, and no longer needing to deal with staffing issues. Another plus. I have been in a retreat from most social media and interactions, as you probably have noticed. Nothing special for a reason, other than a need to be a bit more private. I still peer into a couple places to keep up with friends. I'm hoping next year is an improvement, but because of the stoopids massing and electing a fascist regime, we fear for our well being now. We'll see ( ... )

My mom is in the home, she doesn't know who anyone is anymore but is less agitated and bitchy than she ever was, which must be a great relief to the staff.

Our health, well actually my health, is not entirely wonderful but not yet as much of nuisance as yours. Daniel is basically fine for a 40 y/o.

I'm very worried about the politics. One makes escape plans and hopes one never needs them.

Mom is in her own little world now, doesn't know who is there with her, but every now and then comes out with a surprise. Unlike some suffering with Alzheimer's that have fear attacks or sudden acting out, mom is mellow, quiet and occasionally able to communicate her condition, if not always with words. She was wincing recently when her arm was touched, turns out her arm somehow got broken. Not exactly good news. At least she is comfortable now, with the arm braced. Not too long ago she was obviously not comfortable, and when asked, she belted out, "MY ASS HURTS!" The resulting call to the nurses to come find out what was wrong was accompanied with lots of giggling among us.

Merry Christmas to you, Phil! I hope you'll return to LJ in 2017. I find it a much more welcoming place for real interaction than FB. I write a version of my posts on FB, but my real feelings are usually on display in my posts on LJ.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday! The photo of your dinner table was lovely and classy! I was delighted to see a photo of Evan and you! Evan and I are good friends. It's nice to know ya'll are friends, too.

Big HUGS!

We'll see what happens with my LJ. I do miss the days of meaningful interaction here, but at the same time, I'm feeling more withdrawn and wanting privacy in recent years. I'll try to blow the dust off this thing more often. It's definitely more work that a drive-by Facebook post now and then. Enjoy your new digs!

Yeah, I've mostly gone into hiding, but I still lift the blinds and peek out. ;)

Hope you have a great year!

It's not too easy to get rid of me, I'm like a bad penny that keeps showing up in your change. ;)
