Cosplay calling...

Ed from FullMetal Alchemist. It needs to happen, I need to do it. My hair is just about right, though I might need some help making a good braid. I'm thinking I'm going to go for the "construct a metal arm and lose your shirt" angle rather than the "spend a long time sewing" approach. Raythanlakan put the bug in my ear about making a little ( Read more... )

Yes, I really, really want to. If you still have time, I have the weekend of the 22nd still set to "coming to portland; look for ghosts." An old friend is also getting married that sunday night, so I'm going to be around. =)

Well, Rick and I are going to do the garage this summer, hopefully it'll be done some time in August. But even before it's 'done', we should be able to work there. Making a big-ass articulated metal arm seems like a fun project for the weekends, a good guy-time thing to do. What kind of design were you thinking of? All-metal? Or just putting metal bits on a cheap/easy base of pvc or something? Also, I'm curious how we'll secure it to your body if you're going shirtless. (If there were a shirt, we could hide support straps underneath)

This sounds like a fun project.

well, I had assumed that I'd either have to make it in two parts (one with some kind of cuff at the hand, and then a glove) or make something which conformed more closely to my arm, and build on top of that. Because of the subtle detail involved with the arm in the anime, I was thinking that I'd probably start with some kind of a sleeve (like a close-fitting fabric), build it up slightly with foam and duct tape, "boffer-style," and then work with metal over that, so that whavever I can't do in the metal, I can probably do with paint or plastic.

Yeah, I think it's about time for a "non-serious project." Right after I redo the ESP experiment (begging to follow). =)

speaking of cosplaying, I'm trying to get a group together for Sakura Con 2006. Remember the costume I had this year? Anyway, I'm trying to get others to go as Fire Emblem characters, so Lord Hector won't be by himself. I don't know, do you think you could pull this off?

Speaking of FMA costumes, did you see these guys at S-Con?
