At this point - I think that sleep would be more important than meditation. Meditation is something that you have to make time for, yes, but not at the expense of necessary rest. I, however, tend to meditate before bed (often while in bed) to help me get to sleep and facilitate dreams. I find that while I don't always get as much out of it as I would if I was "awake" the whole time, I do feel more centered.

I have found that meditating as an "intro" to sleep can really help....
if only I could manage lucid dreaming thoug, I'd have some extra time for prolem solving and the like... =)

keep your mind spun up, but empty it. being nothing and nowhere is often more useful to me than being calm and relaxed.

You mean, of course. meditating to completely clear your mind? I'm afraid everyone goes to sleep for a while at first. It's such a fast paced world, that when people try to slow their mind (which is normally used to running at 150 miles per hour -lol, an exaggeration) they fall asleep because they're not used to stilling their mind unless they are trying to sleep or rest. Plus the fact that meditation (when you get it right) puts your mind into the Alpha state (brainwaves), which is normally reserved for relaxation, daydreaming and sleeping.
Just keep at it, you'll get it eventually with practice. Oh and interesting journal here.
