Autumn

I love autumn.

I have been singing the praises of this season for years. Living my entire life in a Midwestern US State I have come to look forward to the beauty of an autumn day.
Sun warmed autumn afternoons with temperatures that are ideal sweater days, which become transformed into crisp clean cool autumn evenings. Those evenings that remind you vividly of the seasonal change we are experiencing.

I look forward to the visual beauty of this season when one can witness the green leafed trees being changed almost in front of our eyes to multicolored spectacles. Brilliant yellows, reds and browns replace an otherwise drab green landscape and are intensified when intertwined with the dark green of an occasional evergreen bush that refuses to change its color.

Late in the afternoon on many autumn days the sky adds yet another brilliant, but colorless spectacle to the beauty of the season. A sky filled with black ominous fast moving clouds that are more beautiful than they are threatening!

I love the warmth of the sun in the summer, the beauty of a newly fallen snow in the winter and the floral rebirth of nature in the spring, but none of those can match the beauty and comfort provided by an autumn day.

Then as quickly as it appears you awake one morning and it's all gone! The rains and winds of the previous night have stripped the trees of their beauty and left in its place a ground filled with a colorful but dull litter. Adding insult to injury the comfortable sweater weather has left and the temperatures drop to hover near freezing. Your eyes absorb the shock of the missing color and your body absorbs the shock of the frigid weather. Yes, it is a cold morning, but this is autumn. We can expect Indian summer next week with temperatures back up into the 60's or 70's for just a few more days before a steady diet of cooler weather.

This is autumn. I love it!
