[Victor was attempting to read a book, one that poorly explained the method of using the small oven boxes in the kitchen (or at least one of them), but his increasing discomfort with being so close to Sveta was increasing. It wasn't just the issue of space between the genders. It was worse than that. It was everything he'd said about her after the flood hanging in the air and everything that had happened to Howie.]

Perhaps the Admiral will end this most swiftly. [Victor said out of the blue, placing his small book down on the table.] Surely he must realise there is little purpose here.

[She looked over when he spoke, surprised at that. She wasn't upset with him or angry at all, but he had made this very, very difficult. Though she knew she wasn't helping. Victor wasn't her favorite person and she wasn't going to pretend to the contrary. Especially after what he had said.

I believe there was a higher purpose in the flood before this. I witnessed many horrible things in it, but believe that it was for the better. [Victor can't help but grimace at the mention of horrible things. The infirmary had not been a comfortable place during that flood, and his counterpart had seemed almost bound there.]

Perhaps we merely ought to have more faith in the Admiral.
