Well, that certainly seems funny to me. I'd guess false, just because the women's legs were covered quite well with the ridiculously long skirts they wore.

Yeah, it's true, though. Women's legs were covered for much the same reason, of course.

So the table cloth was a Victorian era invention? Or did it just really become vogue then? Interesting tidbit though!
