So, I took my fourth kyu test on Saturday. While my family was unable to come watch, this time I imposed on a fellow student to take video of the experience.
Everyone who commented on the test said I showed a fair amount of improvement over my last test. It felt a little better while I was doing it, though I still felt stiff and awkward. It didn't help that I'd lost feeling in my feet before the test started - I think three people tested before I did. I ended up with one of the better junior black belts as uke. I'm sure having him work with me made my technique look about ten times better.
After viewing the video, that last statement is extremely depressing. Not to put too fine a point on it, my form blows goats. My major problem was with maintaining my posture through the throw. I have a deplorable tendency to lean from the waist at the end of the technique, especially heading into pins. I'd also like to see a faster presentation, without sacrificing any smoothness.
I realize that they don't hold junior ranks to a particularly high standard, but I'd like to think that I'm better than that video shows.
By the next time I test, I intend to be.
