Chapter 1: Room 311

“This makes me so sad.”

Ryo threw a look over to the other side of the room where Koyama sat at the window. “Well, it’s always just for one year, isn’t it?”

“But…” The boy with the slightly reddish hair made a sad face, like a puppy, but Ryo had to think of a little, abandoned cat. “I’ve always liked being with you.”

“We didn’t spend much time together, Koyama”, the younger one reminded him and turned back, packing his things. He tried not to get annoyed by his room mate.

For once in his life he had been lucky, actually.

It was Eco Week, what meant nothing else than that in this week all those new students would join this school. Summer was almost over and next week the new semester would start.

To him everything about it was just as new as for the new students, since Ryo had joined this school just a few months ago.

His father had gotten himself a new fiancée after his mother had passed away years ago. He felt a bit like Cinderella, though, since the first thing that fiancée had done when she had moved in was to send Ryo to a boarding school.

She had obviously wanted him out of the house and his father hadn’t objected to the idea.

That was how Ryo had ended at this school.

He hadn’t made many friends in the time he had been here, but so far he didn’t regret it.

Peeking at Koyama who was sitting at the window sill and looked outside of the window, he frowned. Usually, he wouldn’t have become friends with someone like him. They actually weren’t friends, he thought now and zipped his back closed.

But in those three months they had shared a room they had gotten along quite well. Ryo would not have said he disliked Koyama, but he would not have called him a friend, either.

“I don’t want to leave this room”, Koyama said now and sniffled a bit.

Ryo tried to keep his calm and put his bag down from his bed to the floor. “Koyama, you are not moving out.”

“But it won’t be the same anymore without you.”

“I’m just moving to another room.”

It had been last week that the new room constellations had been announced.

After a lazy day in the city, Ryo had come back to find everyone gathered at the huge panel in the entrance hall. Walking over he had heard some snippets of conversations, wondering what was going on.

“Oh no, it’s gonna be one of the newbies…”

“I never got along with Taguchi-kun? Why him?”

Curious what that had been about, Ryo had stepped forward to the panel, reading the message there:

Eco Week starts from August 10th. Rooms are going to be divided as follows.

Rooms are to be moved into until 10.00; classes will take place as usual after that.

Frowning, Ryo had been checking the following list of rooms, finding his name standing all alone for room 311.

For a moment he kept staring, but then someone hit him with his ankle and dragged him out of his happy feeling with that.

He noticed the younger boy, all bouncy and happy, hugging another boy from behind.

“Wah~ Look, Massu! We’re going to share a room!”

“Tegoshi-kun, could you please…?” The boy with the very dark brown hair seemed just as uncomfortable about the other one’s bouncing as Ryo was. “Get off of me…?”

“Hey, brat”, Ryo said and the light brunette turned to him. “Watch out what you’re doing or I’ll…”

“Well, well, Ryo-chan”, someone interrupted him from behind and he looked at Takizawa. “Don’t get that angry at Tegoshi-kun. I’m sure he didn’t mean to bother you.”

Tegoshi looked at him with big, brown eyes and let go of his friend, before he slightly bowed. “I’m sorry, Takizawa-senpai.”

“Hey, it’s me you should apologize to!” Ryo gave him a glare.

Tegoshi just looked at him and as Takizawa gave them a smile and turned away again, he slightly grinned at Ryo and then occupied himself with his friend again.

Ryo decided not to give a damn about it and just ignore that kid. He turned to the panel again and checked if his name was really standing there all on its own.

In a better mood again, he backed off again as he saw Koyama.

“They’re going to tear us apart”, the older one said and gave him a teary look.

“Worse things could happen”, was all Ryo answered.

“Like sharing a room with Koki-kun?”

The raven-haired sighed and gave Koyama’s shoulder a pat. “Like that.” Then he pointed at the panel. “What does Eco Week mean?”

“It’s the week when new students are accepted to the school. You were somehow special, entering in the middle of the year. Usually they only accept new students for the beginning of the year.” Koyama pointed at Nakamaru who was standing next to him. “He’s going to share a room with one of the new ones.”

“Ah, so unlucky…”, Nakamaru sighed and clicked his tongue. “I’m going to have to take care of him.”

“How stupid is that? No one can force you to take care of someone, just because you happen to share a room.”

Nakamaru shrugged his shoulders. “It’s just natural, isn’t it? Didn’t Koyama take care of you, too, when you were new?”

Ryo smirked. “I never asked him to. Jin and Uchi did it better, however.”

Koyama just shook his head and sighed as he gave Nakamaru a look. “I tried, at least.”

Ryo had left them then to go back to his room. He had had exactly four days left before he’d move to his new room and he was already excited about it.

Being in a room with Koyama had been quite stressing at times. Koyama used to talk a lot and Ryo wasn’t the kind who always wanted to listen. Sometimes he just let Koyama talk and had ignored it, pretending to listen with a few nods or mumbled words.

But mostly it had gotten on his nerves, so knowing he’d have a room to himself soon made him grin happily.

For once he had been really lucky.

“It’s not going to be as nice in here anymore when Koki-kun moves in”, Koyama said now and without asking he got up to help Ryo get his heavy bag to the door.

“Koki is actually a nice guy.”

“He’s loud and messy.”

“So are you”, Ryo told him and opened the door.

Koyama shot him a hurt look. “Not in the way he is!”

Ryo couldn’t help the smile forming in his face. “That’s probably true.”

As they had reached the lift, Koyama let go of the side of the bag he had been carrying. His look was sorrowful. “Take care, Ryo-chan.”

The raven-haired frowned at him and as the lift opened he tagged his bag inside. “I’ll see you in class in about twenty minutes, Koyama.”

This was the last place he wanted to be.

Staring at the building in front of him, Ohkura sighed and gripped his bag tighter, as he stepped forward.

He looked around and saw all those other new students around him. No one seemed to be alone like he was. Everyone was talking to one another, only he was for himself.

He wondered if probably, the others noticed from his aura that he didn’t want to be here and raised his head again to look at the huge building.

His parents had forced him to come here. Ohkura had been more than happy at his old school, but a year ago his family’s hotel company had expanded and by now Hotel Ohkura was all over Japan.

His parents had the money and the status, so they had forced him to change schools; others would know he was from a successful family when he’d say he went to a private high school.

The bad thing about it, though, was that private high school in this case meant dorm.

He wouldn’t go home after school anymore. From now on, Ohkura would live in this place.

Another sigh escaped his lips as he stepped into the building and looked around. Everyone seemed to know where to go, except for him. Slightly confused he stopped and tried to orientate, but didn’t know where to head to.

Someone bumped into him from behind and he turned quickly.

“I’m sorry!”, they both said at the same time.

“I was stopping so suddenly; it’s my fault”, Ohkura said and bowed slightly.

“It’s okay”, the other male said and looked at him. “You seem lost.”

“I’m new here”, Ohkura explained.

“So am I. Didn’t you get the letter?”

“Letter?” He tried to remember, but couldn’t think of any letter he had gotten. “I don’t think so.”

“When I got approved to this school I got a letter with all information. Like my class, dorm and room.” The brunette showed it to him.

“I didn’t get something like that.”

For a moment they both didn’t know what to do or to say, but then the smaller one nodded. “Okay, then lets find someone who could help us.”

Ohkura nodded and slightly ungainly followed the other boy as he went ahead. “Ehm… I’m Ohkura Tadayoshi. Thank you.”

The boy turned to him and smiled. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Kazuya Kamenashi.”

In silence, they kept on walking down the corridor, then decided for the left path. As they almost reached the end of it, they saw an older student coming from one of the rooms.

“Excuse me!”, Kazuya waved over to him.

The boy turned to them and looked surprised. “Are you lost?”

“Somehow”, the brunette answered and stepped closer. “Can you tell me where to find a teacher or one of the prepostors?”

“You’re lucky, I’m a prepostor. What’s the matter?”

Kazuya took a step back and Ohkura spoke up: “It seems I didn’t get one of those letters.”

“But you’ve been accepted to the school?”, the older one wanted to know.

Ohkura nodded and tangled a small envelop out of his bag, showing the letter.

He received a nod as an answer. “You’ve just been accepted quite late. I’ll take you with me and show you your room and the way to your class room. You’re class representative is going to show you the rest later then.”

“Okay, I’ll be going to my room then”, Kazuya said and smiled at him.

Ohkura returned the smile. “Thanks for your help.”

Shaking his head, the smaller one turned. “You’re welcome. See you later then.”

The prepostor smiled as he pointed Ohkura where to head to. “Isn’t that nice? You’ve already made a friend.”

The younger one nodded and frowned. A friend was probably a bit of an exaggeration, but Kamenashi had been very kind to him.

“So…” Looking at the letter, the older one turned right suddenly and Ohkura followed. He wasn’t quite sure if he would be really able to remember the way. “Ohkura-kun, right?”

“Yes.”

“I’m Sakurai Sho, class S1. You’re going to be in class M1; then Yamashita-kun is going to be in charge of you. I’m going to inform him about you.”

Next, they took the lift up and from that moment on in that the doors slid open and they stepped out again, Ohkura was completely lost. But he didn’t say anything as he followed Sakurai down the corridor.

“This is the building for the dorms. There’s a huge garden in the middle of the building, you probably noticed. The northern and southern parts of the building are the ones for you middle schoolers. Students from secondary school are in the eastern part. The western part is for the primary schoolers.” He stopped in front of a room, checking his list. “This is the only room free, so I think Yamashita-kun won’t mind it if I let you take it, since we can’t accommodate you anywhere else.”

Ohkura bowed and smiled. “Thank you very much for your help.”

Sakurai shook his head and smiled back. “Not at all. You still have about thirty minutes until classes start, so get your things organized and then you’ll better get to the building at the left side from this one. All class rooms are there.”

“Okay, thank you.”

Sakurai nodded, then he turned away, but said over his shoulder: “And don’t be late.”

Ohkura looked after him and sighed.

It was horrible. He hadn’t even fully arrived yet and already needed help from everyone.

But, so far, the people he had met had been nice.

Nevertheless, he didn’t really want to make friends here. He planned to leave this place as soon as possible again.

Unfortunately, he just wasn’t the type to act up.

But he’d find a way to make them kicking him from school. Then he’d go back to the school he had been at before. It was small and clearly arranged and he wouldn’t have to sleep at school, what was probably the best thing about it.

With a sigh he opened the door to room 311.

It was his very first day and he was almost late for classes.

Kazuya hurried down a corridor, trying to find the room for class M1. He was quite lost, since there were so many rooms and he couldn’t quite figure out which floor to go to.

He wasn’t sure if he’d fit in here. He had already met a few people and most of them seemed nice, but also so very intelligent.

He wasn’t dumb, but his parents had sent him here, since they thought demands at his old school had been too easy for him; and because they could effort it they had decided to sign him in into this school.

Knowing their well meaning he hadn’t said anything, but he was sure his problems in mathematics hadn’t occurred because of too lowly set demands. It had been rather difficult for him and Kazuya had the feeling it would just get worse at this school.

He sighed as he reached a dead end of a corridor and class room M1 didn’t even come in sight.

But as he wanted to turn around a door plopped open and a young boy stumbled out. Kazuya recognized it as the rest room and titled his head, a little curious as a way older boy followed.

“I told you he’s not around, didn’t I?”

The black-haired, younger boy pouted slightly. “But he’s always around you”, he mumbled.

“That’s what he’s supposed to be.” The older one folded his arms. “Because, as you probably noticed, we’re always together.”

“I just wanted…”

“I don’t care, brat!”

“But he’s…”

“Mine, yes.”

“That’s not…”

“It is the truth”, the older one interrupted again and didn’t leave the boy any chance.

“Uhm…” They both turned their heads now and stared at Kazuya who had barely spoken up. “Excuse me, I just…”

“Ah, a new face.” The older male smiled and walked over to him. “Are you lost?”

Kazuya just nodded.

“Well, well, what’s your class? Are you one of the kiddies? P1? Then you can accompany my little friend here to your class room.”

A little confused, Kazuya threw the younger boy who was still pouting a look; he was checking out the door of the rest room with keen looks. He didn’t know what happened, but he felt pity for the kid. He was so cute, after all. “I’m in M1.”

“Oh, well, in that case you can accompany me. I’m in M2, so we have almost the same way.” His smile was actually really nice, but Kazuya was a bit daunted by what he had seen and heard before.

“I guess I am late and they said…”

“Ah, don’t worry about that. Chinen-kun, I told you he’s not in there!” The older boy didn’t even turn as he walked ahead and the raven-haired jumped a bit at those words, stepping back from the door he had been trying to open up. “Get to class now or I’ll tell Sakurai-senpai you’ve been skipping classes on purpose.”

Kazuya watched the younger one, Chinen by name, apparently, giving his senpai a glare. But he followed as he was told. Slightly puzzled, Kazuya followed, too.

“There, there”, the older one said and turned to Chinen, patting his head. “Hurry up to get to your classes.”

“Yes, Senpai.”

He looked after him for a moment and sighed then. “And he’ll be waiting again when I’ll be coming from classes.”

Kazuya frowned at him. “Waiting?”

The older one just seemed to remember now that he had company and turned to him. “Ah, sorry. I’m Ninomiya Kazunari. Sorry for this; I have to scold that kid from time to time.”

Kazuya decided he’d better not ask about it. “Nice to meet you.” Somehow, he thought, at least. He’d help him finding the way, after all. “I’m Kazuya Kamenashi.”

“Ah!”, Ninomiya beamed. “You’re my room mate then!”

Kazuya tried not to look too shocked. “Am I?”

“Well, it’s what the paper at the panel said, at least.” The older one smiled, before he turned again, a quick look at his watch. “We better hurry now, or we’ll be late.”

With a smile on his lips Ryo stood in front of his new room. He took the key he had just gotten this morning from the student council Takizawa and put it into the lock--- just to notice it was already opened up.

Okay, well, turning the key to his new room hadn’t been that special to him, after all, so he decided to not take it too bad and just opened the door.

As he walked inside, his gaze first fell at the huge window over one of the beds, then he noticed slightly green walls and two huge beds.

All rooms were laid up for two, he knew that. Thinking about that he definitely wouldn’t sleep beneath the window, he tugged his luggage over to the bed at the other side of the room and then frowned at the sight.

There was a suitcase on the bed.

Ryo just had another second to think Oh, please don’t let this be true, as the door to the bathroom opened and another, completely alien boy came in.

They both stared at each other for a few seconds, then Ryo cleared his throat. “It that yours?” He pointed at the suitcase.

All he got was a nod as an answer.

“You’re sure this is your room?” He just didn’t want to believe his dream was over.

Again, a nod.

“Well, then it seems we’re room mates from now on.” Ryo angrily dragged his bag onto the other bed. The one beneath the window. He hated sleeping beneath windows. A growl sounded from his throat. “I’m Ryo Nishikido.”

The brunette boy didn’t say a word, just watched him and Ryo rose again, giving him an annoyed look. “What’s up? Did you lose your voice?”

Ohkura just lifted an eyebrow at him and turned around then to get his things unpacked.

Ryo’s eyes got small as he watched him. He knew this behaviour perfectly. When he’d been new here he had done just the same with Koyama.

What did that brat think? That was his image; he couldn’t just steal it. The cool and barely speaking outsider was his role here.

He watched Ohkura for a moment longer; then he snorted and turned again. He certainly was one of the younger ones; it was unbelievable how all of them acted so superior lately. He was potentially Tegoshi’s new best friend or something.

As he noticed he had just ten minutes left until classes, Ryo just dropped his things as they were and turned to the door. He’d get himself a coffee to calm his nerves before he’d go to class.

“Hey, chatterbox”, he said and saw the taller one reacting, but not turning. “Lock the door, should you plan to attend classes.”

With that he left and Ohkura let go of the breath he had held unconsciously.

He hadn’t meant to be impolite or unfriendly, but he didn’t even want to make friends here, because he still planned on leaving very soon again, so he thought it was better to just let them think he was cold and not interested in them at all.

He, too, abandoned his luggage and decided he’d better leave for class, otherwise he’d be late.

As he made his way out of the building he noticed it was rather quiet; he couldn’t see anyone around. Remembering the way to the class rooms Sakurai-senpai had told him he entered the building across from the dorm and went up a few stairs.

As he had almost reached the room for M1, two people rushed pass him and one with black hair turned to him while running. “You better hurry or you’ll be late!”

Ohkura looked after them and noticed the brunette one of them was Kamenashi, who had helped him earlier. He gasped a short “Thanks!” to the older one who was with him, then they parted and Kamenashi hurried into the left room, the other boy into the right one which’s sign said “M2”. Right in that moment a bell rang.

Ohkura just frowned. He’d probably just be late for several times, then they’d kick him. He just wasn’t the type to act big and mess with people, so this was probably the best way for him to stand out negatively.

Apparently, Kamenashi had closed the door behind himself and Ohkura sighed. Hadn’t he seen him, too? He knew he’d get into that room, too, didn’t he?

He gripped the door handle and bumped into the wood. Frowning he tried again, but the door didn’t open up.

He heard the teacher reading out names and bored voices answering with “here” or “present”. As his name was read out loud, it remained silent.

“Ohkura Tadayoshi”, the teacher’s voice repeated and then in a strict tone said: “Absent.”

Ohkura frowned again and knocked the door, but no one reacted to it. Attendance was further checked; then he heard the teacher starting a topic.

What was this about? Did all of them just go crazy?

He turned and listened to what the teacher was talking about inside for a while, before he decided to leave. He’d probably go and find the cafeteria to get something to eat and drink and would go back to his room then…

He gasped.

With a slightly guilty feeling he noticed that he had forgotten to lock the room. That moody guy who was his room mate would most likely get furious over it.

So, he’d better get back first to lock the door.

As he turned completely to leave, he saw two boys sitting across the corridor at one of the low and huge window sills, talking.

One of them had light brown hair, slightly curly and was wearing his uniform quite correctly. The tie was tied strictly and he wore glasses; a book opened in his hand. But he didn’t seem to prefer being alone and reading, since he was pleasantly talking with the blonde next to him.

He was smaller and his uniform was worn slightly messy. The tie was loose and the sleeves of his jacket were tied around his waist. His shirt wasn’t properly fixed into his pants and had patches at the knees. They were pink and blue smiling cherries.

Ohkura tried to ignore them as he walked past them.

“A new one”, the blonde suddenly said and followed Ohkura with his gaze. But he just walked on.

He heard a giggle from both of them and tried not to take note of it; he didn’t care for them laughing at him. He’d never get to know them, anyway.

“Hey, newbie, don’t go back to your room.”

Ohkura frowned, but kept on walking. How did they know he wanted to go back to his room?

“Hey, didn’t you listen?”

He stopped and turned to them, his look questioningly.

“If you went back to your room now, the punishment would be much worse because they’ll count it as skipping classes then.” The brunette took off his glasses. “Why don’t you join us? We were late, too.”

Punishment? Ohkura just frowned again.

The blonde frowned at him. “You are one of the middle schoolers, aren’t you?”

“What are you thinking? They don’t lock the doors for the primary classes.”

“Who knows? He’s probably one and just really skips classes!” The blonde shrugged his shoulders. “However, I’m Yasuda, you can call me Yasu. And this” he pointed at the brunette beside him “is Yamapi.”

“Hey”, Yamapi smacked his head, but then gave Ohkura a nice smile. “Yamashita Tomohisa.”

Ohkura nodded and silence lay between them.

“And?”, Yasu titled his head as he got up. “You don’t have a name?”

The younger one looked closely at him and had to admit something about that boy was just cute. His smile, the way he looked at him and bounced forth and back at his feet made him look so childish. “I’m Ohkura Tadayoshi.”

“Ah, we’re already calling Ohno-kun Oh-chan by times. But we’ll find another nice nickname for you!”

“You know, Yasuda, not everyone wants to be called by nicknames”, Yamashita threw in and closed his book. “So, why are you late, Ohkura-kun?”

“I just took a bit too much time to get here. I didn’t know about this… about them locking the doors.” Ohkura decided that he wouldn’t get away without talking to them, so he sat down where Yasuda had been sitting before. “How about you?”

“I miscalculated the time to get here from the secondary school class rooms”, the blonde answered.

“I don’t really know myself; I’m not late usually.” Yamashita frowned a bit over himself.

“You as class representative shouldn’t be late.”

Ohkura looked at the brunette. “That’s odd, indeed.”

“It happened; I didn’t mean to. But to be true, we’re not missing anything. Yasuda-kun on the other hand…”

The older one giggled. “We’re not doing that much more important stuff; it’s just one class higher from yours.”

“So, you’re in M2?”

Yasuda nodded. “And since it’s Eco Week all classes just do the same. Introduce the new students to everything.”

Ohkura titled his head. “Eco Week?”

“We’re changing the room constellations and clubs and all that stuff”, Yamashita explained. “It’s no big deal, actually. But every year it’s a mess, because new students always mean new problems.”

Yasuda nodded. “It’s quite interesting to see how everyone gets along… or not gets along.”

“However.” Yamashita smiled at Ohkura, before he looked at his watch and got up then. “If you have any problems or questions, don’t hesitate to come to me.”

The bell suddenly rang again and Ohkura saw the doors opening moments later. A few people came out.

“Well, then, I’ll be off!” Yasuda waved at them with a bright smile before he dashed off.

“Isn’t he supposed to go to class now?”

“He always uses the breaks to meet up with Subaru-kun; he’ll be back before break is over.”

Ohkura looked after the blonde and frowned.

It really was a strange school, apparently with even stranger people. He wasn’t quite sure if he would fit in here, but he had to admit, those two he had just been talking to were both nice.

If the food at the cafeteria was good, Ohkura decided, he’d probably give it a try.

“Pi, where’s Uchi?”

As Ohkura heard that voice his head turned and still sitting at the window sill he stared up at Ryo who was accompanied by another boy with dark brunette hair.

“He didn’t come out yet, so I think he’s still in the class room”, Yamashita answered and turned to Ohkura then. “Let’s get in to apologize, Ohkura-kun.”

“Apologize? What did he do?” Ryo gave him a suspicious look.

Yamashita laughed. “We were just both late, Ryo-chan.”

Ohkura felt their gazes hook, then he looked away and followed Yamashita inside their class room.

It was loud; only one of the boys was sitting at his table at the window, studying, apparently. Another boy with curly brown hair was kneeling in front of the boy’s table and without the one who was studying taking notice of it the brunette tied his shoelaces together.

Another quite tall boy came over and smacked him at the head.

Ohkura looked away and his gaze found Kazuya’s who was watching him.

He slightly waved at him and Ohkura smiled.

A boy with dark brown hair was sleeping as it seemed, but as the cute prankster was forced to stop he had gotten over to him, taking a pen to draw onto the sleeping person’s face.

“Tegoshi, if you don’t stop that I’ll put you in detention for today!”

The younger one looked up and closed the pen. “Ah, Yamashita-kun, Massu won’t be mad at me.”

Ohkura saw ‘Massu’ opening just one eye. “If you call me Massu again, I will get mad, Tegoshi.” His voice sounded quite calm, though.

Ryo and the other boy who had been with him before, too, came in. “Hey, Uchi, let’s go out for a moment!”

Ohkura saw the boy who had smacked Tegoshi earlier getting up. He smiled at Ryo and Ohkura noticed that they seemed quite close as they went out.

The dark brunette stayed and caught Yamashita’s attention. “Toma wasn’t in class, again. You’d better find out what he’s doing.”

As he left, Ohkura saw Yamashita frown and noticed his look was worried, before he got over to him, a smile on his lips again.

“You’re going to take the seat over there, next to Tegoshi-kun.”

Ohkura nodded and got over then, sitting down. The boy next to him smiled at him and even though he looked cute and nice, Ohkura reminded himself to always be careful and keep an eye on Tegoshi.

He wasn’t keen to find his shoelaces tied together, or his face painted in bright colours.

With a sigh he let his head sink to the desk.

This could really get exciting; but Ohkura wasn’t sure if he wanted an exciting life.

Thanks so much for reading!

Actually, this is just a try, because I'll be on hiatus from Saturday on, but I wanted to at least post the first chap before leaving for a while. I hope there's some feedback; then I'll go on posting his fic after that! ^^
