Flowers

Thinking of flowers, Masuda didn’t really associate them with Tegoshi.

They were pretty and colourful, smelled nice and nothing but decorative in Masuda’s mind, so he didn’t really get why anyone would relate flowers to people.

But Shige did, apparently.

He came into the dressing room one day, a book in his hand, his glasses on and glanced at the others.

“Yamashita surely is a white rose. His blood type, zodiac sign and hair colour speak for that”, was what he had pointed out to them.

Everyone had blinked at him in confusion, not exactly getting the point in that, but Yamashita had said a polite “Thanks”, however.

Shige had gone on, pointing out names of flowers Masuda had never heard of before.

“You’re a carnation, but the colour is undecided, Massu”, Shige told him.

“That’s nothing new”, Ryo commented. “Each petal most likely has a different colour for Massu’s flower.”

Masuda ignored the comment and tried to imagine what a carnation might look like. He had no idea, so in his head there just was a daisy with a smiling face that was swaying in the wind.

The imagination made him smile, too.

“Tegoshi, you’re red poppy.”

“What the…?” Tegoshi stared at him, looking dissatisfied. “Why do I have to be something that ungraceful, while Keii-chan gets the peach blossom?!”

“Do you want to say I was ungraceful?”

The youngest threw Koyama a look. “My point is, I deserve something that’s a bit classier, don’t you guys think?”

Shige snorted. “Fits perfectly, if you’d ask me.”

Tegoshi ignored him and turned to Ryo. “What were you again?”

“I am everything but a flower, believe me”, Ryo just said and got up then to leave the room. He gripped the book out of Shige’s hand on his way and threw it to the bin next to the door, earning him an angry “Hey!”

“The only thing that’s not classy enough here is Shige’s reading.”

Yamashita laughed and changed his shirt, before he followed.

“Massu”, Tegoshi asked and scooted closer to him, while Shige and Koyama had changed the topic already. “What flower do I remind you of?”

Masuda tilted his head slightly. “Does that matter?”

“Read poppy. I don’t want to be that.” Tegoshi sighed. “Your carnation is much better, compared.”

“Can a carnation sway in the wind?”

The younger boy fell silent and just looked at Masuda for a moment. “What?”

Masuda smiled slightly and shrugged a shoulder. “Forget it.”

“So, what flower do I remind you of?”

Pulling a face, Masuda thought for a moment. He didn’t know any flowers. “A daisy?”

“Is there any other flower you know?” Tegoshi lifted an eye brow.

Masuda shrugged. Then his face lit up. “Oh, I know. For lovers, you should say red rose, right?”

Tegoshi just laughed and got up then, shaking his head. “I’ll stay red poppy then.”

Masuda watched him leave and frowned.

A few days later, as Tegoshi came to work a bit earlier than expected, he found Masuda in the room already, lazily reading in a book on their couch.

He looked up and greeted Tegoshi and smiled, as the younger one came over and plopped down next to him, nuzzling close.

“What are you reading?”

“About flowers.”

Tegoshi blinked at him in confusion. “You’re still at that?”

Masuda nodded and put an arm around Tegoshi’s shoulders, pulling him close again. “Listen; it’s what they say about red poppy.”

Tegoshi smiled slightly and leaned closer. “Go ahead.”

“A fragile and delicate appearance, pretty and soft”, Masuda read the description. “That sounds like you, indeed”, he commented.

“What? I am…”

“There’s more.” Masuda grinned, as he went on: “Strong-willed, self-centred and resistant. Not that easy to break. Hardly ever gives up.”

Tegoshi fell quiet. He swung his foot back and forth, kicking the couch slightly. “Shige’s book probably wasn’t that wrong.”

Masuda nodded and turned his head to press a kiss to Tegoshi’s hair. “Sounds pretty much like you.”

“What about yours? Does it suit you, too?”

Masuda laughed slightly and shook his head. “I spent the time on finding an answer to your question.”

“I think that one just now suited it very well.”

“But it’s not the one coming to my mind thinking of you.”

Tegoshi frowned. “Let me guess. Daisies?”

Masuda grinned widely. “I found a really good one.”

“Tell me”, Tegoshi requested, looking at him with round eyes.

Leaning in and taking a short kiss from Tegoshi’s lips, Masuda murmured: “Thistles.”
