A Change of Walls

“I’m home“, was all Kazuya could murmur, as he opened the door to his flat and strolled in.

“You’re late”, was what he got as an answer and it made him sigh, while he took off his jacket.

Jin came from his kitchen, wearing a thick jacket, scarf and jeans. He frowned, as he saw Kazuya. “What are you doing?”

Kazuya gave him a confused look, shrugging his shoulders. “Coming home?”

“You can leave that jacket on. It really suits you, by the way”, Jin added and approached him. He quickly pecked Kazuya’s cheek, before he got into his boots and opened the door.

“We’re leaving?”, Kazuya asked.

“Yup, I have something special stored for tonight.”

“I’m not in for drinking and clubbing, Jin.”

Jin laughed and pulled Kazuya out of the flat. “Good, me neither.”

“But...”, the younger one started, without getting to finish his protest. Jin just gave him a single look and he obeyed; following Jin down the staircase.

“What were you doing so long, anyways? I’ve been waiting. You should have been home an hour ago.”

Kazuya buried his hands in the pockets of his jacket. “Filming didn’t go that well.”

“Your fault?”

“No, I did fine.”

Jin held the door for Kazuya and chuckled over the look he got for that. “We’ll take my car.”

Kazuya shrugged. “Are we going to drive for long?”

“Why?”

“I’d take a nap.”

“Then, no.”

Kazuya pulled a face. “You want me to entertain you while you’re driving?”

“It’s about us doing something together”, Jin pointed out.

“I’m right here next to you.”

He laughed. “Most of the time we spend together, is when sleeping. I won’t let it slip today.”

Kazuya rolled his eyes.  “What’s with you suddenly? Usually, you’re all happy with watching TV and falling asleep at the couch.”

“Today’s not usually.”

“Okay, got it. Today would have been good for lazily staying on the sofa, though.”

Jin drove out of town and kept Kazuya awake with telling him about his day. When a good song came on the radio, he turned it louder and grinned at his lover.

Kazuya couldn’t help, but grin back, before both of them started to sing along loudly. They divided the parts naturally and Kazuya noticed that, in a way, he really missed singing with Jin.

It was Jin who pointed it out first, however. “It feels like an eternity since we last sang together.”

“Yeah, kind of.”

They both didn’t comment further on it. There were occasions like this, when they could still sing together, even if they couldn’t anymore at work.

“Don’t fall asleep”, Jin warned him, as the silence stretched.

Kazuya just raised a brow at him, before he yawned. “Are we there soon?”

Jin nodded. “It’s not far.”

As Jin pulled to a stop just a mere ten minutes later, Kazuya frowned and looked at him. “Where are we?”

“Come on, get out.”

Kazuya hesitated for a moment, but then followed Jin out of the car. The older one had already taken a blanket from the back and held out his hand for Kazuya.

Hand in hand, they walked down a narrow path, until they stopped at a small beach. The wind was cold and harsh, but the sight still beautiful.

“You bring me to a beach in winter?”, Kazuya asked, as if to confirm that this place really was where Jin wanted to be.

Jin smiled and pulled him along. Sand got into their shoes and the breeze messed up their hair. Until they came to a spot between the rocks well protected against the wind.

“It’s good weather today”, Jin said and unfolded the blanket. “We may see a purely romantic sun setting.”

Kazuya stared at him in disbelief for a while, speechless. He couldn’t quite believe how Jin had gotten an idea like this so suddenly, but he didn’t know how to ask for his reasons, either.

Jin just smiled and framed Kazuya’s face, before he kissed him. When they parted afterwards, Kazuya’s look wasn’t as unbelieving anymore.

“I figured we could need a change of walls.”

A smile spread across Kazuya’s features and he laughed. “So, you thought we need some romance.”

“Romance is always good, isn’t it?”

“I’m going to freeze, if I sit out here in the cold”, Kazuya commented.

“And I’ll warm you up properly.” Jin pulled him closer.

Kazuya didn’t see a reason to refuse that offer, so he nuzzled close into Jin’s embrace, as they sat down.

Jin had been right; the sun setting really was beautiful and added the right amount of romance to their situation.

Cuddling at the beach while watching the sun setting, Kazuya thought and laced his fingers with Jin’s, was a nice change from the usual cuddling on the sofa, while watching TV.

“Look”, Jin said after a while, “it’s dipping into the water now.”

As he didn’t get a response to that, Jin tilted his head to look at Kazuya. He had rested his head against Jin’s chest and slept peacefully and curled up to him.

Jin smiled and patted Kazuya’s hair gently, deciding to let it slip, however and leave him sleeping until the sun would disappear into the water completely and they’d have to go home.

He had wanted to make a change of walls for them, but apparently, Jin thought with a smile, a few things would always be the same.
