Not the Good Kind

“And you think it’s fine?“

Ryo shrugged a shoulder. “Why wouldn’t it be? I asked him and he said, he wouldn’t mind. He’s not much home, anyways.”

“How do you know him? He’s not in our department, is he?”

“No, we went to school together and he decided to apply for jobs instead of going to college.”

“What kind of job...”

“God, Jin”, Ryo interrupted and rolled his eyes, before he pressed a button at the door. “Keep it and ask him yourself later.”

Jin fell silent and pouted his lips slightly, adjusting his bag over his shoulder.

“Straighten your back and try to look nice at least, okay?”

He had known Ryo for almost a year by now. They were in the same department at university, studying music sciences and were both the same, as they didn’t really know where it would lead them.

But they shared the love for music.

Jin was lucky to know Ryo, he thought now as he stood in front of that black door with the numbers 016 printed in gold on a white plague that was put on eye level. If he hadn’t known Ryo, he wouldn’t be here right now, waiting for that door to open.

Jin lost the thought, as it did.

He looked kind, almost angelic. A slim figure, soft hazel hair that framed a pretty face with milky white skin and high cheek bones, full, rosé lips that smiled a gentle smile and perfect shaped eyes, coloured in honey gold.

Jin almost frowned at himself, since he once again caught himself thinking in poetical terms, but the appearance of the man across just automatically made him.

It was just all too perfect.

“Ryo-chan”, he said and the smile got brighter. “It’s so nice to see you again. Come in.”

He made way and let both of them step inside.

Jin watched the man’s back, while he got out of his shoes and put them properly to the entrance, before he followed Ryo inside.

“I’ve been surprised, when you called this morning”, the man said and pointed at the couch for them to take a seat. “We haven’t talked for so long.”

Ryo laughed quietly. “I’m sorry for calling so suddenly.”

“No, it’s fine. And”, he said and turned his look to Jin for the first time, “you must be Akanishi.”

Jin nodded. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“My pleasure. I’m Kamenashi Kazuya; you can just call me Kame.”

“Um.” Jin nodded slowly, not sure how to answer. He wasn’t used to people being that open.

“So, what’s the matter? We didn’t have much time to talk this morning.”

Ryo nudged Jin’s shoulder with his. “Explain your situation.”

Feeling like a child being ordered around, Jin scratched his temple and frowned. “Well, actually, I need a room for two months.”

Kazuya lifted a brow.

Ryo sighed. “Give some more explanation, idiot”, he mumbled. “The case is, he had to move out from his former flat and he actually found a new one already, but he can only move in there in two months.”

Kazuya nodded. “So, you just need a room to stay in until then.”

“You were the only person I could think of, since I spent some nights in your guest room before.”

“It’s no problem”, Kazuya said and got up to get them some drinks. “I’m glad if I can help out.”

“I can pay you money for the time I’m staying”, Jin immediately said.

Kazuya laughed gently and placed glasses in front of each of them. “It’s fine. You can pay in naturals”, he answered with a wink.

Jin’s eyes widened and he blushed, making Kazuya laugh even more.

“I was talking about doing some grocery shopping from time to time”, Kazuya cleared up.

Ryo laughed, too and took a sip from his drink. “Don’t been too flirty with him, Kame. He just broke up with his girlfriend.”

Kazuya made an interested face. “That’s why you had to move out?”

Jin lowered his head and nodded slightly.

“What a good guy, leaving the flat and most likely everything in it to her”, Kazuya commented.

Not answering that, Jin kept quiet and left it to Ryo to respond.

“He’s not over it yet”, his friend said.

“I see.” Kazuya leaned back in the arm chair he was sitting in. “It’s none of my business, however.”

Ryo looked at his watch and got up then. “I need to go. Thanks so much for helping out, Kame”, he said again and they shortly hugged.

“Come visit again, I am always happy seeing your pretty face”, Kazuya chirped, as he brought Ryo to the door.

When he came back to his living room, Jin was still sitting place, waiting patiently.

“Is that all you’ve brought”, Kazuya asked and pointed at the sports bag and guitar case to Jin’s feet.

“Ah, yeah, it’s most of my clothes.”

Kazuya just nodded. “Fine. Come on, I’ll show you around.”

Jin got up and hurried over, following Kazuya out of the room.

“This is the kitchen. Use whatever you need”, he instructed and opened a few cupboards and draws. “The fridge is rather empty right now, I haven’t been shopping lately. If you didn’t have dinner yet, we could order something later.”

Jin just nodded and took a look around.

The whole flat was rather modern and pretty stylish, in Jin’s mind. As for the kitchen, the walls were white, but the furniture black. The contrast was quite heavy, but it somehow worked. It was a rather small room with just a small window above the sink. Jin could see the street outside, lights from cars and other buildings.

They left and Kazuya showed him the bathroom. Jin had to admit, compared to his flat before, this was something he wouldn’t be able to effort on his own. The bathroom was huge, a tube and a shower on either side, two sinks and in western style.

“This is my bedroom”, Kazuya pointed out, as they came to a stop in front of the next room.

Jin didn’t know why, but he was slightly disappointed, Kazuya didn’t open the door and let him have a look. He, of course, did understand and obviously shouldn’t expect it; but still, he felt slightly disappointed.

“And this would be yours.” Kazuya opened the door next to his and let Jin go in first.

The bed was huge and there even was a TV. The walls were painted in a light blue, the curtains brown and crème. An antique dresser stood across of the bed, a mirror was placed above it. Jin blinked his eyes twice, before he turned to Kazuya.

“Quite girly, isn’t it”, Kazuya joked. “My mom is responsible for the set up.”

“It’s nice”, Jin said.

Kazuya smiled and stepped closer. “The bed’s really comfortable.”

Jin threw a look at the bed and then, back to Kazuya. “Really, thanks for letting me stay. I’ll do my best to compensate you for it.”

A smile traced Kazuya’s lips. He reached out his hand and softly ran it down Jin’s arm. The touch was feather-light, but still sent a tremble through Jin’s body.

“I’m happy to hear that”, Kazuya answered.

“Um”, Jin murmured and stepped back, pulling his arm away. “I’m actually pretty good at cleaning. My mom always made us - I mean, my brothers and me - so, I don’t mind cleaning. It’s actually really enjoyable.”

Kazuya shook his head with an amused smile at Jin’s nervousness.

“Take your time unpacking your things.” He went to the door and turned again, as he reached the frame. “I’ll order Chinese, if that’s fine with you?”

Jin just nodded and fidgeted the fabric of his bag, watching Kazuya leave the room and closing the door behind himself.

He made him nervous, Jin thought. Kazuya made him nervous like no one had ever made him before.

He looked so perfect and apparently, he knew that quite well. A single look of that man was electrifying and mesmerizing.

But, Jin reminded himself, he was a man, there was no way, he could feel that attracted by another man.

Frowning, Jin opened his bag and started to unpack, put his things to the draws of the dresser. He remembered the moment the door had opened and Kazuya had stepped into his sight.

That moment of complete perfection, when he had taken in every detail of that appearance.

Jin sat down on his bed, a shirt, neatly folded, in his hands and stared at out of the window, wondering how he could have been that wrong.

His shoulders dropped and he slightly shook his head, that image of Kazuya still blinding his senses.

He had never been that wrong about a first impression before.

They had dinner together in the living room, later that evening.

Kazuya comfortably sat on the couch, his legs pulled up, while he zapped through the TV programme. Jin sat next to him, rather stiff and quietly ate his noodles.

“So, Jin”, Kazuya said then and settled on some drama. “Tell me something about you.”

Jin gave him a look and shrugged.

“Why did you break up with your girlfriend?”

Surprised, Jin choked on his noodles and grabbed his glass to drink something. He wasn’t too sure, but that wasn’t some basic information about someone. That pretty much was something personal and intimate to ask.

“I’m 23”, he answered instead. “I study music science and have been to America.”

Kazuya tilted his head. “You’ve been to America?”

“I’ve been living there for a good year”, Jin answered. “During high school, it was an exchange, so I absolved my tenth year of school in America.”

“I wouldn’t not have guessed!” Kazuya stuffed some chicken into his mouth and went on: “You’re not acting very American.”

“Could be, because I’m Japanese”, Jin said dryly.

Kazuya laughed and held a hand in front of his mouth. “I mean, you don’t really seem loose.”

Jin frowned. “So, Americans are loose?”

“No, just... For someone who’s seen so much of the world, you’re quite stiff and shy.”

“After all, I’m sitting here - living together now - with a complete stranger.”

Kazuya stilled for a moment, before he flashed Jin one of his smiles. “So, we should get to know each other better, right?”

Jin shrugged, agreed with a slight nod of his head.

“I’m 23, too, by the way”, Kazuya informed him. “I’m Pisces and work in a company. Pretty normal, actually.”

“What kind of company?”

“It’s marketing and promotional work. We’re a small company, our customers are products like sweets and other foods and we basically do their promotion.”

“But it seems to be a good job”, Jin pointed out.

Kazuya shrugged. “I like it. It’s fun and what I’ve wanted to do.”

Jin smiled at him and put away his plate.

“So, you’re actually capable”, Kazuya said and kept his eyes trained on Jin’s face.

Jin gave him an asking look.

“Smile”, Kazuya explained. “You’re capable of smiling. And it really looks good, too.”

“You are strange”, Jin just said and shook his head.

“So, where exactly have you been in America?”

Jin leaned back and turned to Kazuya to look at him. Actually, there was nothing that scary anymore about this whole situation. Kazuya wasn’t a bad guy; he was nice, just a bit too straight-forward, but Jin could handle that.

Later, when he went to bed, he thought that moving in to Kazuya actually was pretty good. They got along well and it wouldn’t be uncomfortable to live together for the next two months.

Jin had been quite lucky.

It had almost been a week and Jin still couldn’t complain. He didn’t have a right to complain in the first place, when someone took him in for two months, but so far, everything was going really well.

Kazuya really wasn’t home much, so Jin had lots of time to himself. When he wasn’t out with friends or at his soccer training, Jin could use his time at home to play his guitar and compose melodies. He enjoyed doing so, as he hadn’t been able to for a long time.

This evening, too, Kazuya was gone. He hadn’t even come home from work.

But it wasn’t any of Jin’s business, so he stayed in his room and worked on a paper. It was almost two in the morning, when he finally heard the door opening.

Jin checked the watch and wondered how he could have worked for so long, but that thought was gone in an instant, as he heard Kazuya giggle.

That giggle was just all too alluring and slinky, it made Jin freeze.

“Shhh”, he heard Kazuya murmur, before a loud thud followed. “We’re not all alone.”

He was drunk, Jin noticed from that voice and unconsciously held his breath. He heard them kissing, Kazuya’s deep moans mixing in and soft rustling of clothes, before they moved again and Jin heard how they disappeared into Kazuya’s room.

But it wasn’t over with that. Now, the voices had just moved, but Jin could still hear them as clear as before.

Putting away his laptop, Jin got up from the bed and tried to figure out what to do. Like that, he stood there, in the middle of the room and blankly stared at the wall. The moans got louder and Jin’s look got more and more terrified.

In an attempt to shut them out from his senses, he covered his ears with his hands and closed his eyes, but it didn’t really help.

The bed on the other side audibly clashed against the wall in a strong and fast rhythm and it was accompanied by Kazuya’s moans and cries, pleas and orders.

Jin turned off the light in his room and crawled into his bed, pulling the blanket over his head. He shut his eyes firmly and held his breath again.

Kazuya’s moans got louder, but softer at the same time. Jin could hear him mumble, cry out words, Jin couldn’t understand at all, before it got silent.

Waiting, Jin lay beneath his blanket, curled up and tensed. His eyes were wide open and he stared into the darkness, but everything he heard was his own breath and his loudly beating heart.

When exactly he had fallen asleep, Jin couldn’t remember. But as silence had taken over, he had closed his eyes at some point, trying to not think of what he had just witnessed.

He had woken up, when the guy had left that morning. Again, they had not been too considerate or thoughtful and Jin had heard them exchanging kisses at the door, before it had finally closed and all sounds he could hear now, were the coffee machine in the kitchen and the shower in the bathroom.

He waited, until Kazuya had gone back to his room, before Jin sneaked out of his and into the bathroom.

He quickly showered and changed into jeans and a simple shirt, before he got out again and just got his bag from his room.  Without having to meet Kazuya once this morning, he sneaked out of the flat and sighed in relief, as he sat in the train.

Ryo greeted him with a cheerful wave, as he came into the room they had their first class in. Actually, Jin didn’t have many classes together with Ryo, but he was happy to meet him right now.

“Morning”, Ryo said and sat down next to him.

“Hm”, Jin answered and closed his time planer.

“What?” Ryo gave him a frown. “You look a little angry.”

“Your friend”, Jin just said.

“Who? Kame?” Ryo tilted his head. “You said, everything was going well.”

Jin growled. “Until tonight.”

Ryo bit his lip. “You see that’s just him. He can’t resist. Just keep saying No and he’ll eventually...”

“If it was that!” Jin crossed his arms. “I listened to him banging... or rather being banged for quite some while tonight.”

Ryo just stared at him for a mere ten seconds, before he started to laugh. “Honestly?”

“He brought some guy and they had quite a nice time, I’d say.”

Ryo still laughed. “He’s human, from time to time we just need it, don’t we?”

Jin gave him a furious look. “I did listen to him having sex, Ryo!”

His friend sighed and took Jin’s shoulders, looking at him firmly. “I’m going to tell you something now, Jin.”

Jin stared at him with expectant eyes.

“He did have sex before, too. It doesn’t make him someone else.”

Batting away Ryo’s hands, Jin leaned back again and crossed his arms. “Shut up.”

They didn’t talk about it.

Two days passed and Jin pretended he had never heard anything. Kazuya either acted along or thought it really was that way. Jin didn’t really mind what it was, as long as he just wouldn’t ever have to talk about it.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t that lucky.

He had come home late from soccer training and Kazuya had greeted him with a cheerful smile and an announcement that he had cooked for them.

Surprised, Jin had checked the contents of the pots.

“Okay, go, have a shower first”, Kazuya had said and pushed him out of the kitchen. “It’s done, when you’re finished.”

Now, Jin dried his hair with a towel, before he placed it around his hips and quietly sneaked out of the bathroom. He wanted to hurry over to his room, but something held him back and he stopped, stilled his movements and listened for a moment.

Kazuya was singing. His voice quietly sounded from the kitchen. He sang along to a sad song on the radio and Jin smiled at how he caught high notes clearly. He had a nice singing voice.

Jin hadn’t noticed himself moving over, until he stood in the doorframe and Kazuya turned to him, his singing fading and his eyes on Jin.

“Ah, sorry”, Jin said and blushed, being aware that he was almost naked. “I heard you singing.”

Kazuya smiled and put down the plates he had just gotten out of a cupboard. He strolled over, until he stood in front of Jin. “I often sing, when I’m cooking.”

Jin nodded, returned the smile nervously. “You have a good voice.”

“I should take that as a high praise from a music student, right?” Kazuya reached out his hand and caught a stray drop of water from Jin’s upper arm.

Jin’s breath got caught in his throat and he stared at Kazuya, couldn’t move, as that finger moved up and over his shoulder, down his collarbone and to his chest.

It actually wasn’t honey, Jin thought, as his lips parted and he stared into Kazuya’s eyes. It was a shape darker. Those eyes were just too mesmerizing, too enchanting.

He had never seen eyes quite like those before.

Kazuya held Jin’s eyes with his, watched him, as he licked his lips, felt Jin tremble beneath his light touch. “You have a nice body, Jin.”

“Hm”, Jin made and his eyes got hazy, as Kazuya drew circles over his tummy. It tickled slightly, but it was a good sensation. He was still staring into Kazuya’s eyes, but closed them automatically, as that finger ran down to his navel and below.

He inhaled sharply, as Kazuya’s tongue ran over his neck.  A moan escaped his lips and he reached out his hands to grab Kazuya’s waist, as he started to suck over Jin’s pulsing vein. Jin pulled him closer, their hips coming together, centre to centre and he tilted his head back to give Kazuya more space.

Kazuya gently bit down his skin, ran his lips up, whispered something into Jin’s ear, breathless and sensual, making Jin roll his hips slightly against his, what left both of them trembling and longing for more.

For a moment, the world was shut out completely and all that mattered was them. Jin felt like Kazuya had completely taken over him, engulfed in that scent of his skin and hair, that heat that made every remaining droplet on his skin burn up.

When Kazuya’s hand ran over the towel and touched him, he his eyes flew open, his lips parted slightly and in the next moment, Jin had pushed him away.

Kazuya straightened out his clothes calmly.

“I thought you were ready to pay your rent now”, he just commented.

Jin gasped and adjusted the towel over his hips. “I never intended to use something like that as a payment.”

Kazuya shrugged. “What a pity.”

As Kazuya turned, Jin stared at his back. “You... What about your boyfriend?”

“Boyfriend?” Turning, Kazuya frowned, while he set up the table.

“I’m sleeping in the room next to yours”, Jin just said, angry at himself and saying it without thinking about it. “I’m not deaf.”

Kazuya stared at him for a moment. “Oh that”, he said then. “You listened? That must have been awkward.”

Jin wanted to go over and strangle him, telling him just how awkward it had been.

“Next time, you should just come over and join us.”

Not quite sure, if he had heard that right, Jin could only stare, at a loss for words.

Kazuya gave him a cheeky grin and walked over, patting Jin’s chest. “He’s not my boyfriend. So, my bedroom’s always open to you.” He turned again and got some cutlery. “Get dressed now, dinner’s ready.”

Jin couldn’t quite process what he’d been just hearing, what he had just been told. “I’m not hungry”, he only managed to say, before he turned and went to his bedroom.

He closed the door behind himself and leaned against it, staring at the floor.

Had he thought he’d been lucky to move in to Kazuya’s?

He slid down to the floor and ran his hands through his hair. Not ever before, he had felt quite like this. Not a single time before.

He wasn’t gay, he wasn’t into men, wasn’t attracted by them. So what the hell did Kazuya do to him?

With a trembling breath, Jin tilted his head back and closed his eyes.

He was anything but lucky.
