Title: Six Years
Pairing: Akanishi Jin x Kazuya Kamenashi //Akame//
Genre: Romance, Fluff, slight Angst
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters in this story. I don't make profit with this.
Summary: It's a tradition to come to that place.
A/N: English isn't my mother tongue, but I've been living in the UK for quite a time, so I basically write and speak well. You're welcome to correct any mistakes, though. Of course.
A/N#2: Kamen (仮面) is Japanese for Mask.
A/N#3: This is related to Kamen.

It's New Year, there is no way, I could ignore it, as it's the only special event in all parts of Kamen. So, even this year, there is a small drabble for it; just something small and rather meaningless, though!

I hope you'll enjoy it :)

Six Years

Merely twenty, Kazuya thought and stared into the dark.

He had been not yet twenty years old, when he had first come to this place. It had been six years ago and he had come for just the same reason as he had come here every year after.

He had come to this place every New Year to pray. By now, it was already in the middle of night and Kazuya looked at his watch.

He had come to pray once again. Just once a year did Kazuya come to visit a shrine and make his prayers to the Gods. Only at this time of the year could he believe that praying would even make sense - that what he wished for could come true, after all.

He took the last few steps up the platform and threw a coin, before he clapped his hands once and closed his eyes.

Wind blew up, messed up his hair, moved the rope of the bell and made the trees of the wood behind the shrine whisper and sweep.

Kazuya opened his eyes again and turned his head slightly.

The wind had brought what he had wished for most - Jin stood right next to him.

He had his hands in his pockets, wore a dark hat and looked at the shrine, not praying but waiting.

“Jin”, Kazuya said and lowered his hands.

He turned his head and looked at Kazuya. “I saw you coming.”

“Did you wait here?”

Jin nodded and turned around to leave the platform. “I didn’t have to work until almost two in the night”, he answered.

Kazuya chuckled slightly. “How long did you wait?”

“Not that long. I knew you would come here, after all.”

With a smile, Kazuya looked at the shrine again. “It’s a tradition.”

“I somehow can’t stand this place anymore”, Jin said indifferently. “It bears quite some sad memories.”

Kazuya tilted his head back to look at Jin. It was true, they had made quite some sad memories at this place. Still, they had both come here every year.

“I came here for the first time in that year, when you were in America”, Kazuya said suddenly. “I wasn’t even twenty then, but I had a wish - something to pray for.”

Jin looked at Kazuya, as the wind came up again and moved Kazuya’s hair again; made both their jackets wave.

“I started to believe prayers could come true, after that. After all, you had really come back and not just that - I even got you to be with me.”

With a smile, Jin buried his hands in his pockets again. “That didn’t happen, because you prayed for it”, he said. “I had loved you for so long.”

Kazuya returned the smile. “I still had a wish and I think it’s safer to pray for it than to just rely on you.”

For a moment, they both kept silent to that; then, Jin reached out one hand and looked at Kazuya.

Kazuya waited a second, before he took it and let Jin pull him down the platform. He laced their fingers and pulled Jin’s hand into his pocket.

It wasn’t really cold, it didn’t even snow like it had done the years before; but Kazuya thought the gesture was nice - intimate.

“So, do you have a wish you want to write down on an ema for the new year”, Jin asked.

Kazuya shrugged and ran his thumb over Jin’s. “There isn’t a way to make you stay with me, I guess. Not even a prayer would help that.”

Jin lowered his look. “I am here now.”

Kazuya nudged his shoulder with his own. “I know. I have something else I want to write down this year.”

Taking a plaque, Kazuya let go of Jin’s hand for a moment and wrote down one line, before he put it to the other ema.

I want things to stay the way they are.

Jin looked at it and gave Kazuya a smile, before he took the pen and wrote down one line, too.

I wish to never have to pray again.

Kazuya laughed at that and took Jin’s hand again, pulling him in, to kiss him. Jin returned the grin, as he leaned his forehead against Kazuya’s.

“Let’s go home”, he said.

Kazuya nodded and pulled Jin along, burying their hands with their fingers laced comfortably in his pocket again.

Next year, they would again come together to this place, Kazuya thought.

Even if Jin thought they didn’t have to pray again - Kazuya rather didn’t risk losing the right path once again.

He would make sure to be by Jin’s side as much as he could.

And as long as possible.
