What a wonderful series of stories! vandevere June 1 2011, 19:01:13 UTC
But what a terrible place for Jayne and his Family to have to live in.

Am I right in thinking that Jayne and Luce may have been bitten by Reavers? If so, no wonder Luce is so...strange. Mattie's scary too. I'm just afraid that most of Jayne's blood kin are going to meet nasty ends...

Thank you - I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)

You've hit the nail right on the head! Luce does have the PAX in his system after getting bitten on Isis. Jayne managed to remain unscathed, but it's his actions during i lár na hoíche that haunt him as you'll see in next part.

Don't worry about the nasty ends - I'm no Joss, so I don't think that I could manage it, plus these Jayne's blood kin all play an important part in the main story line. Mattie should actually be showing up in the next little while if all goes to plan.

Thanks again for the review!

That bit about 'we found the other one' hits me where I live, every time!

Meanwhile, I continue to adore Jayne's family -- especially his female relatives, and the fact that little Thom's ability to come up with an exceptionally profane and creative curse makes his heart swell with pride/love/paternal feelings (and the fact that his response to learning that Thom bit the mailman for no particularl reason is 'good'!).

That's the same kind of reaction I see Book getting at Jayne's unusual answer.

I'm glad you like them - I'm having a lot of fun writing Jayne coming from a family of strong women who insist on being equals despite coming from a patriarchal society. Thom is pretty much a miniature Jayne - he can't help but love her as she manages to surpass him in cunning!

Oh, lovely! His relationship with his mother is so sad. They all managed to survive, but no one is intact:( But, as usual, violent Jayne with just a touch of humor/sweetness is just too damn hot. And nice bit about him meeting Book before.

Thank you!

Jayne and his mother do struggle with their relationship, mostly due to the big skeleton in their closet that was Jayne's father, but they haven't given up yet. And never will because they're both incredibly stubborn. :)

I'm glad you liked Jayne meeting a pre!Shepherd Book. I've really wanted to bring Book in and this seemed the perfect place for him.

This is so awesome. I love Mattie and Erin. Can you tell me something. How do you pronounce "Luce" is it like the word loose? or is it Lucy? That bugs me for some reason and I can't get it right.

I LOVE picturing Elizabeth Taylor as Ma Cobb.

One more quesiton....I'm blond...so this will sound silly, but why is Jayne called Michael? why did he change his name? or should I be a patient reader? Also when are River and Jayne going to get up to some sexcapades? :)

You pronounce Luce as "loose" - his full name is Lucille Hunter, which Erin chose so that he could say "LUCY! I'm home!" when he's annoyed with his brother. Luce shortened Lucille to Luce.

I'm glad that you loved Mattie and Erin - I love writing their interactions so much - plus, they manage to traumatize Jayne next chapter with their antics. And Elizabeth Taylor works so well as Ma - she's got that hard steel quality to her as well as endless warmth.

If you don't mind some spoilers -- Jayne was born Michael, but he took on a girl's name after i lár na hoíche for a couple of specific reasons, as did the rest of the Family. I plan on touching on the more prominent reason in the next section of the prequel. But part of the reason was to slip past the notice of the Alliance when the Family escaped to Persephone as even then certain members of the Family (the three Cobbs) were thinking ahead and realizing that they didn't want to leave a trail behind.

Also when are River and Jayne going to get up to some sexcapades? :)One day...? : ( ... )

Ah, thank you. I kind of figured it sounded like "loose." Also, I love the spoilers and can't wait to read how Michael became Jayne. Great story and I appreciate your time with my questions. :)

Not a problem - please feel free to ask! It helps me as well to know if there are any points in my story that need clarifying. :)

P.P.S. Thom, your auntie Mattie tells me you’ve been biting people again. Good work.

That made me laugh so hard it's a wonder I didn't hurt myself. Seriously. Such a Jayne thing to say.

I know it's probably dangerous, but all I wanted to do during this entire chapter was give everyone a hug. Everyone from Ma Cobb to Luce. They're all so psycho that they're loveable. What Luce needs is Gabe. All those boys met their match, didn't they? They need someone just as dangerous as they are, and I think if we had a contest Jayne would win for "most dangerous significant other." Right? Right!

That's one of my favourite points too - I love Jayne and his little mini-me.

They probably wouldn't welcome the hug - but after twelve years, everyone is relatively stable. Luce has enough distractions in his life and Gale that he's somewhat calmed down. Ma's off conquering the 'Verse and Thom's still biting people.

I think if we had a contest Jayne would win for "most dangerous significant other."

That's actually a tough one. Jayne would definitely win against Luce, but when Mattie shows up in the main story line, you'll understand why she's just as or almost as dangerous as River. Mattie's been very busy the last twelve years.
