"dancing naked in the mindfield" by kary mullis.
i always laugh when i read this book. no matter how many times i've read it before.
of course, i am a complete dork, but it's fun nonetheless.

The Bone People by Kerri Hulme (that might not be the right author name) It takes place in australia and it's phenomenal.

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. It's about a woman accused of killing the man that she works for in Canada around the turn of the last centry.

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (If you haven't read it alredy) It's a re-telling of part of the old testament htrough the eyes of the women.

i'm commenting because i want to be added: your "celebrate! (??)" icon is just too awesome, and the fact that we have some interests in common is just icing. But all the same, i'd recommend White Oleander by Janet Fitch (my v. favorite), Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Steven Chbosky for road reading. Even though i'm sure your trip is over. And you probably have enough books anyway.
