Weekend update

Saturday
Grandma watched Brendan for most of the afternoon. It gave us an opportunity to do a bunch of tidying-up at home, including the shredding of numerous receipts that had piled up. Too bad I was unable to vacuum and/or clean the bathrooms.

After dinner we took Brendan to Watermania for his first major water experience. It felt so wrong eating a large amount at dinner and quickly changing into my swimming trunks and rushing to the facility. I had to remind myself that I was merely going "in the water" and not actually swimming or partaking in any other vigorous activity.

We didn't know how long we would actually be there so we were tempted to use 2 free admission coupons for myself and Cat (as children under 2 are free). However, I felt bad about that so I paid $5.90 for one adult. The cool thing is that Watermania has family change rooms, so we only needed to rent one locker to store our belongings, and I could also assist with changing Brendan.

When we first got to the pool, the waves were building up and Brendan looked scared. He was clinging on to Cat for dear life which is highly unusual for this curious fellow. But when the waves stopped, he started exploring with his foot, and that's when we knew he was ready to enter the water. So he wandered around in the water, making noise and splashing the water with his hands. He ventured into water as high as his neck! The only issue is that he constantly wanted to go in the "waterpark" area which is raised and out of the water, so he got cold and was visibly shaking.

Although we were only there for less than 30 mins, I was so tired after. I probably spent the entire time squatting while being in close contact with Brendan. He had slipped in the bathtub and dipped his face in the water before, so I did not want him to have a negative experience this time around. Next time we go, we will wear flip flops (rather than shoes/socks), and pack the towels on top of our clothes rather than the other way around. One thing we're concerned about, however, is the effect of the pool water on his eczema...

Sunday
Went to Shoppers in the morning to have my points added to my Optimum account since I had made a purchase the day before but forgot my card. Then went to Save On to get a few groceries. By then it was nearly 11am so we raced over to Dragon View Restaurant (formerly Wah Wing Seafood Restaurant) for dimsum - just the three of us. They were just starting to get busy but luckily had space for us. Brendan was reasonably well behaved - interacting with people around him, looking out the window at cars & planes going by, and eating his beef rice roll and bbq pork bun.

Got home around noon and he pooed so we cleaned him up, gave him his milk and he started napping just before 1pm. We hopped into bed ASAP and slept until almost 3pm, which is remarkable since Brendan doesn't often nap that long! I got ready for hockey at 4-5pm (where we won our first game and I played well!) while mom & Brendan wandered around the rink, went to the library, and bought ground beef at Save-On.

After dinner we went for a walk. He went down the elementary school slide by himself for the first time and was thrilled. We also let him walk by himself on people's grass - we didn't want him to fall on concrete and scrape or bruise himself. Good thing, cuz he did do a faceplant on the grass while trying to get up!

All in all, it was a great Father's Day - although he did cry a bit after I put him in bed that night.
