Quick Question...

I've noticed lots of people making fun of the fact that Hillary Clinton wears pantsuits. Now, as far as I can tell, a pantsuit is a suit. It's tailored in such a way that it fits the female figure rather than the male, but it's a suit. Last time I checked, a matching jacket and pants were called a suit. I'm not a big fan of Hillary Clinton's, I ( Read more... )

a) people are dumb and can't be bothered to debate actual issues so they find superficial things to get annoyed about like what clothes politicians wear and their general appearance. I suppose they just think she's not feminine enough as if that even matters in politics.

b) Hillary should wear a leather catsuit and carry a bull whip, holding Bill dog collared on a leash. Now that would make things interesting!

I believe all mockery of Hilary Clinton's pantsuits is justified. People do so because she is seemingly incapable of finding a flattering cut and color (I assure you that such things exist). Usually, she goes one step further by adding a HIDEOUS clashing accessory (a multi-ethnic scarf, something a hungover bead monster threw up, etc).

If Clinton has a stylist, that person should be shot. Or perhaps that person was shot already. My friend Caitlin, a designer, could go into more depth with this than I. The thing is, you should dress yourself snazzily when you're in the public eye. It's a nice thing to do, a courtesy to those who have to look at you. Hilary refuses to do this. As such, it's just... insulting.

As for an example of someone who can dress herself and is as a result not made fun of? Look to Nancy Pelosi. It doesn't take much. Just a little bit of class.

So for you it's not the fact that she wears pantsuits, but rather the fact that she chooses ugly ones?

Exactly. And I like to think that's the case with all decent people. Those folks making fun of her just because she wears pantsuits in general... well, that's immature. Though she did set herself up for it, saying, "In the white house, I'll wear the pantsuits." *shudder*
