3 is probably too young for that kind of art and gallery. They should have been directed to the basement of the British Library who had an exhibition of how books are made and one of...something to do with a children's author, that they seemed to be enjoying but I've forgotten which.

Apres google:
It was Hans Christian Andersen, but ended on October 2nd.

First gallery visits were at about that age with the grand parents. They had simple rules and we were not allowed to run around or make loud noise. If we did they took us outside straight away and that ended the trip abruptly and meant there were no trips or treats on the next visit to them in London (which was a big thing as a child).
It worked and it was only 20 years ago - not sure when the attitudes started to change in the UK but they have and we seem to have confused child friendly with out of control, child friendly food joints are also now mostly unbearable.
