Okay there's build-a-bear and what's the other? I know there's one other like it but I can't think of the name.

Teddycrafters used to be the other option local, but they closed up in these parts. I can't remember if you are local to me or not. =oP

I don't think we're local (DC?). there was one near here but I think it's gone.

Most definitely not local. I'm in the Sacramento, CA area. =oP

I have about 6 local friends on my list, and I can never remember which ones they are.

We used to have Teddy Crafters in a couple of malls here in Dallas, but the company went out of business last year.

All I know offhand otherwise are traveling "make your own stuffed animal" party companies, which are usually local (like Noah's Ark Animal Workshop in northern VA) and the customizable but not made while you watch bears from Vermont Teddy Bears (which also cost a good chunk -- I paid $90 for a bridal bear a few years ago).
