Owning It

Cruising around the Fandom Wank scene recently, I was reading the exploits of a frequent wanker who has dipped her feet in many fandoms. One characteristic of this individual is that, although she claims to love female characters and wrote preachy meta about the misogyny inherent in slash fandom, she overwhelming just writes and squees about white ( Read more... )

It's good to know that others share similar views to mine. I have always been sort of defensive about my het-shipping and tried to justify it. But really, I have to accept that I just like het best and the reasons don't really matter.

As a Yaoi lover of all kinds I would like to say.

THANK YOU .

Geeze I hate HATE HATE all the hetro-hate that goes on in Yaoi groups, seriously. Thanks for standing up to it. I see so many het shippers lie down and act like their pairings are less or something in the fact of rude and frankly stupid Yaoi people. Its saddening that it seems they can't love Straight pairings as much as I love yaoi because of what my fellow Fan-girls say about them
So thanks For owning this,

It's not so much the teenage "het is ewww!" types who even bug me the most (though they certainly are annoying). It is the pretentious academic fans who go on and on about how subversive and wonderful slash is while making a cursory mention that het can be deep and meaningful too if one makes a concerted effort to specifically make it so. But my conclusion is that everyone's tastes are equally stupid and whatever we like, we will come up with complex explanations of how great it is and why we love it. But it is really just taste and we are kind of all the same. Does that make sense?

Though I like pairings, whether it's male or female, I agree that others shouldn't assume that girls who read heterosexual stories just want to be in the heroine's shoes.

The attitude goes hand in hand with the ever loosening standards of what constitutes a "Mary Sue." nowadays, many slashers seem to be of the mindset that all het is tantamount to writing a Mary Sue.
