Yet another young person loses their battle with addiction and the perils of fame. Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment today in London. It makes me sad that all those around her could not help her with her emotional/alcohol/drug battles. What a waste of talent and youth. It also makes me sad that no one is surprised by her death. It was almost inevitable with her drinking problems. I guess I am a mixture of sad and pissed that she threw it all away and couldn't get her act together. I also feel sorry for her band mates.

I firmly believe that no matter how much anyone wants to help someone, it won't work unless that person is willing to be helped. I believe people tried to help her but she didn't want it. This lifestyle, destructive as it was, was something she was comfortable with. I don't know how she grew up, but perhaps it was all she knew. I agree, still sad either way.

You're exactly right, Melissa. No matter how much those around the "afflicted" person want to help them, there's nothing anyone else can do. Short of having them legally put into rehab/therapy, but even then, once the person's out, they can do whatever the heck they want.

Another one dies at 27. Let's see, that's now... Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brandon Lee and Amy Winehouse. All died at 27... too young. I'm 27! I can't even imagine...
