Wow, the backlash against Chik-Fil-A. I honestly feel like that LGBTQ rights have become THE issue in civil rights more so over the last 12 months than ever before. I read and see more about it than I can ever remember in all my life. I also recognize that the next generation will not understand what the big deal was, much in the way I can't ( Read more... )

Meh. I tend to let my opinion of Chick-Fil-A be seen by not buying their product - not as an organized boycott thing, just because I'm not comfortable with giving them my money. So while I'm pleased to see that people are finally waking up to their politics, I agree that keeping them from opening somewhere is going a bit far.

I would point out, however, that Chick-Fil-A stating that it doesn't discriminate is one thing, and Chick-Fil-A actually not discriminating is another. Of course they're going to say that they want everybody to eat their delicious nuggets of Southern Baptist chicken. They're not stupid - that's why they've spent most of their history playing the traditional values card and being quieter about the less attractive aspects of their values.

(I'll spare you the anecdotal evidence of Chick-Fil-A discriminating against gay customers, because nobody likes anecdotal evidence. It was years ago, anyway, and I suspect they'd be too smart to pull that now.)

(Edited to fix unfinished thought up top.)

I agree with you. Of course, we don't have Chik Fil-a here, so it's really a non-issue, but I do eat there occasionally when I'm home visiting my mother. Really, this whole thing is strange to me because I thought people were generally aware of his viewpoints already. The sad fact is, I'm sure I would be horrified if I traced the money trail of many of the places and products I frequent :( Time to move off the grid and start making everything myself.

And re: your husband's grandma...my mother has a similar story. When she was young, they were living in the Bay Area because my grandpa was stationed there. She still remembers how baffled she was when they were visiting 'home' aka Oklahoma City, riding the bus with my great grandma and asking why the blacks and whites were separated.

I haven't been paying attention to this, but I'm surprised that this is an unpopular opinion. Of COURSE the Chick Fil-A should be allowed to open!! (Barring any zoning violations or anything of that nature of course.) Who is saying that it shouldn't be? Oh my god.
