People with cats, help!

I can't find this information on google for the life of me. I'm looking to get a new scratching post and there's one I like but it's all carpet - my scratching posts have always had a corded component, which seems to be where the cats like to scratch best. So - does it matter or no if the scratching post is all carpet?#most-uninteresting-question-

Le mien est fan des paillassons, du coup on n'a jamais acheté de trucs spécifiques. Enfin... si, ma mère a acheté un paillasson pour lui, quoi. ;)

I've got one cat that will only use the cardboard, and another that will occasionally use this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3037705
The carpeted post doesn't get used at all.
