The cosmological argument in favour of God is that "nothing could have gotten started in the first place or be ultimately explained if there were not at least one self - existent, necessary being who owes its existence to no other reality. I think the purpose of believing in a god or a creator is to merely have someone to turn to when you feel like being an asshole to someone who has done you wrong. It's easier to turn away from love then to continue to love...it's easier to have the outlook that "this person is awful therefor I have grounds for hate" It's harder to look at it as love is love, no matter who it is, and everyone deserves it as equally as everyone else. That's what I believe "God" is there for, to help us see that even when we feel it is impossible. All those other tangible things we try to attach to this "God" (even the name 'God' and the pronoun 'He' that is often used) is just so our puny brains can try to make sense of something that is not tangible and can not be explained by what we know. People have a hard time trying to take the viewpoint that not everything can be explained by our worldly knowledge, especially because the thing in question is not of this world. It just over simpifies it so we can begin to put a face and name and character to ( ... )
