Yes, this could have happened. In my mind, now, this did happen.
I can't tell you how nice that is to hear.
I'm exploring some stuff, feeder narratives for the "New Junon" - konghou story arc. The more I think about Reeve and Yuffie, the more they seem capable of offering, and it's exactly to do with the problem of pursuing objectives.
Unfortunately, it's getting that bulbous quality that suggests a long piece trying to grow. I sense an encounter with Reno incipiently.
The accuracy of your take on Reeve and his attitudes is laser-like.
I'm just starting to read around in the Yuffie fandom, and have not yet found much I really liked (I noticed that you and I both liked a Yuffentine on AOO that stacked a bunch of failed seduction attempts together in a plausible and funny way). Still not sold on Yuffie/Vincent, but am increasingly interested in Yuffie/Reeve, even though I think of him as at least 40 and she really can't be more than 19 in this piece I'm writing.
Oh, beautiful. I've actually never liked Yuffie's character, but you've managed to make her shine here in quite a believable light.
Love the Moogle-shaped coffee mug. But on a deeper level, I love the tense conversation regarding the Turks-- it's almost as if they're the elephant in the room at this moment, the guys (and girl) nobody wants to talk about. But the truth of the matter is that perhaps they are vicious and ruthless but at the same time they are needed. And the fact that Yuffie can suggest them as a necessary method of fail-proof assistance--despite her mention of sleazy!Reno feeling her up--says quite a bit.
(btw, sleazy!Reno is kind of my favorite depiction of Reno. Not gonna lie)
P.S.-- Finally read "Answer Man". Absolutely AMAZING. I'm planning on leaving a proper comment, when I get the time. But I can't wait for the continuation--Panglossia? Sounds marvelous.
Glad you enjoyed this excerpt! I've never been inspired to write Yuffie before, although Reeve has interested me for a long time. I'm finding her surprisingly versatile.
And I am glad you like "Answer Man." I'm sort of snake-wrestling with it right now, and I'm pretty sure I will not post any further updates to AO3 until the whole thing is finished, which may be another 7 chapters or so. It's turning out that I want to do a little editing to previously-written stuff, now, and I'd rather not have to do that every time I post an update.
But I will be posting chapters as I finish them here, in my LJ, because what I do is so freaking cryptic sometimes that feedback (especially of the ""WTF is this?" variety is very, very helpful.
I am letting this simmer a bit; what I like about Yuffie as a POV character is that I can kind of open out the throttle and let her yammer on. She reminds me of Findzeit in this respect. Reeve is starting to feel like precisely the right foil for her energy, interesting in his own right, and also interesting to her, specifically.

I could so see this: “Did you, um, notice the body armor? That I’m wearing?”
